So everyone has to use all of their capacities and talents, and “None of you believes until he wishes for his brother that which he wishes for himself,” which Imam Nawawi has said means one’s non-Muslim as well as Muslim brothers.
And so he (the ‘alim) has to have access to the kind of information people in the intelligence business have access to, not merely journalistic commentary and analysis which is often merely for mass consumption.
Secondly, he has to be able to speak freely—there have to be no consequences if the ‘alim has an opinion for something or against something.

Who or what is a Salafi? Is their approach valid? - by Nuh Ha Mim Keller
Whoever has not read these and does not know what is in them is condemned to be ignorant of the hadith evidence for a great many Hanafi positions.
One eventually realizes that one has to choose between following the ijtihad of a real mujtahid, or the ijtihad of some or another "movement leader", whose qualifications may simply be a matter of reputation, something which is often made and circulated among people without a grasp of the issues.
Without these qualifications, the most one can legitimately claim is to reproduce such an interpretive claim from someone who definitely has these qualifications; namely, one of those unanimously recognized by the Umma as such since the times of the true salaf, at their forefront the mujtahid Imams of the four madhhabs or "schools of jurisprudence".

Traditional scholarship is protected from such misguidance by the authentic knowledge it has preserved, living teacher from living teacher, in unbroken succession back to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace).
Anyone who reads these and puts them into practice in his life has an enormous return for reading hadith, even more so if he aims at perfecting himself by attaining the noble character traits of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) mentioned in hadith.
I have mentioned elsewhere some of the sciences needed by the scholar to join between all the hadiths, and that some hadiths condition each other or are conditioned by more general or more specific hadiths or Quranic verses that bear on the question.

The Revival - What is Bidah? By Nuh Ha Mim Keller
The following is the text of a talk given by Shaikh Nuh Ha Mim Keller at Nottingham and Trent University on Wednesday 25th January 1995.
One may not support the denial of his classification by clinging to the hadith "Every innovation is misguidance", because the only form of innovation that is without exception misguidance is that concerning tenets of faith, like the innovations of the Mutazilites, Qadarites, Murjiites, and so on, that contradicted the beliefs of the early Muslims.
The leader of the encampment was stung by a scorpion, and his followers tried everything to cure him, and when all had failed, one said, "If you would approach the group camped near you, one of them might have something".

Some may argue that Nuh Keller's book was intended for students of Islamic law and to be studied with a teacher, if that were so then it should never have been mass produced for public sale.
It may be asked why it was necessary to discuss this controversial issue at all and not simply concentrate upon the creed to which he follows also Nuh Keller (or rather the sources he quotes) is a little harsh on ibn Taymiyyah and ibn al-Qayyim.

 A refutation of Bilal Philips
Last but not least, after quoting extensively from Nuh Ha Mim Keller's "Reliance of the Traveller," there is absolutely no indication that Nuh Keller is supporting "worshipping Prophet Muhammad" as Bilal Philips falsely alleges.
So in actuality, Bilal Philips is slandering not just Nuh Keller, but the Prophet (pbuh), the Companions, and the others of the salaf us-salih, and the ulema of the khalaf who followed their footsteps.
So now it is known that Bilal Philips has not only accused Bilal Philips of shirk, but also Shaykh Yusuf Rif'ai (and the plenty of shuyukh who revised and approved of Shaykh Nuh Keller's translation of "The Reliance of the Traveller").

Mariza: Fado Em Mim - PopMatters Music Review
Her first CD Fado em Mim lives up to the fanfare that has surrounded its release.
Three of the fados on her CD are ones that are associated with Amalia Rodrigues -- "Maria Lisboa", "Barco Negro", and " Há Festa Na Mouraria".
Though there are many fados that are instrumental, fado is mainly poetry set to music -- poetry that essentially expresses the Portuguese soul somewhat similar to the blues of the Mississippi delta or the rembetic music of Greece.
