Robert Aske left the Company £20,000 in 1690 to set up a hospital and home for 20 elderly men and a school for 20 boys at Hoxton, just north of the City of London.
In 1891, Hatcham girls moved to new premises half a mile away, while Hatcham boys took over the girls’ buildings.
They were re-opened at the start of the 1991-92 academic year as Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College, one of the first City Technology Colleges, operating as one college over both sites and utilising information technology in every subject taught.

 Microsoft Office Specialist Academic Competition: UK winners announced
Tim Woolcock, 26, of Cornwall College who, in addition to winning first prize for the Excel competition, was also awarded second place in the Word competition, commented, "I worked really hard for the Microsoft Office Specialist exams in Word and Excel and am really pleased to win awards in both.
Tim Woolcock of Cornwall College took second place in the Word competition, and Alasdair Mackie of Acuity Training Ltd took second place in the Excel competition, and were each presented with an iPod.
Haberdashers Askes Hatcham College and West Cheshire College received the Silver Award and Bronze Award respectively.

The Haberdashers Company, who owned much of the land in New Cross and were developing it in the 1860s and 1870s, had surplus money in the Aske's educational charity.
This is the building, at the corner of New Cross Road and Jerningham Road, to which the girls' school was moved in 1891.

Similar to last year's Masterclasses, they are putting on a series of Hatcham Lectures on a weekly basis on either a Tuesday or Thursday after school lasting approximately one hour for approximately 20 students.

It was whilst he was Vicar of St John's, Burgess Hill that he first met Archbishop James Ayong who, as Principal of Newton College, was beginning a year's sabbatical study at Chichester Theological College, and had a taste of English parochial life when he did a three-week locum in the mid-Sussex parish for Fr Roger.
In fact, teaching at a theological college and involvement in priestly formation had always been an aspiration for him, so Archbishop James' offer meant the fulfilment of a vocation as far as he was concerned.
