Hanna Rovina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She joined the Habima theater in 1917 just as it was being launched, and participated in its first production, a play by Yevgeny Vakhtangov.
She quickly became a symbol of the emergent Hebrew theater, and especially of HaBima, which became the flagship of the new national theater movement.
For many years, the icon representing HaBima was a young girl in a white nightdress with two long tresses: Rovina in her role as Leah'le.

Emanuel Levy : My Books - The Habima:Israel's National Theater
The Habima (stage in Hebrew), the first institutionalized Hebrew theater, was founded in Moscow during the 1917 Revolution by a small group of Hebrew teachers committed to Zionism.
The Habima staged "The Golem" in l922 and "Jacob's Dream" in l925, plays dealing with the trials and missions of the Jews--the privilege, penalty, and tragedy of being "the chosen people." These plays describe the conflict between the Jews and their opponents as a struggle between righteous morality and physical force.
If the Habima's organizational ideology was similar to that of the kibbutz movement in Palestine, it was due to the fact that both were inspired by the same source: Russian collectivism.

 Tel Aviv - Habima Theater
Habima is probably Israel's most important theater, and one of the most impressive endeavors in 20th century Jewish Culture.
Habima Theater was first established in 1913 in the town of Vilna, after the first play (which was a complete failure), the theatrical attempt fell to pieces.
Some critics claim that today Habima has lost something of its rebellious spirit by becoming the national theater, but all agree that it still hosts some of the best plays produced in Israel, with the most highly esteemed actors.

According to the conventional account, this production and subsequent productions in the 1920s secured Habima's reputation in Europe and America, while at the same time demonstrating the Zionist ideals of the company and the fundamental tenets of the Hebrew revival movements in Europe and Israel.
It ties together the evolution of the theatre and the Zionist project with the evolution of the state of Israel.
Powerful as it undoubtedly is, this national myth rests in large part on the wishful thinking of the leading figures in the Hebrew revival movement and on the romanticized memoirs of the founders of the theatre.
