The Tohoku expressway between the Hachinohe and Ichinohe interchanges was closed shortly after the quake struck so tunnels on the highway could be inspected for damage.
A tidal warning was issued for Aomori and Iwate coastal areas, however, the warning was lifted 10 minutes later.
Slippage of plates in the region was responsible for a major earthquake in 1968 that devastated a large portion of Misawa and other communities in Aomori prefecture.

BTW, if you're in Aomori, the big cities are aomori, hirosaki, hachinohe and to a lesser extent goshogawara, mutsu and misawa.
in aomori, odds are you will be a high school jet, but if you're in the sticks (also likely), you'll probably be responsible for all the schools in your town.
Aomori city is a lot further away than Hach.

I was shitting myself coming to Aomori (being a city girl and going to a small village, not speaking any Japanese, no driving license etc) could only see myself staying for 1 year but now it`s my 3rd and am even staying a 4th!
Hachinohe is about 300,000 ppl and the current northen end of the shikansen line down to Tokyo, about four hours away if you're feeling rich and desperate for a bigger city.
I have been placed in Hachinohe and based out of Hachinohe Kogyo and possibly Hachinohe Kita highschools.

The start of bullet-train service was the deathblow for the nightly sleeper train Hakutsuru, which had operated between Aomori and Ueno stations since 1964.
The Japan Rail East spokeswoman said local rail service between Morioka and Hachinohe was turned over to a third-sector corporation when Hayate service began because, in order to operate trains between those stations, the company would have to pay fees; that would cause an increase in sleeper-train fares, making the proposal too expensive.
Shunsuke Taki of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s railway bureau said the extension of the Tohoku bullet-train line between Hachinohe and Aomori is expected to be completed in the next 10 years.
