Kansas State Collegian: The truth about hackers 10/10/03   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Hackers aren't interested in personal computers because they don't have anything of interest to hackers, said a K-State student and hacker who goes by the handle Lateralus.
However, hackers use personal computers as zombies, which means they use an innocent party's computer as an intermediate to route an attack through or to store information or files.
Hackers don't just have Web sites and chatrooms, the serious ones have clans and clubs that require new members to perform certain hacker-tests, like breaking into a specific company's computers, Lateralus said.

INLS 187 - Book Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
In one account of the hacker “Par”, Dreyfus follows his development from the fateful night where he was able to tap into a system containing credit account information from Citibank and through the nationwide manhunt that ensued as a result of his activities.
Another account of a prominent Australian hacker gives the reader insight into the powerful obsessions that drive these young individuals to take enormous risks for a “trophy” that has no bearing on their physical daily lives, except only to receive confirmation of their skills and abilities.
While the book clearly documents the legal consequences of each hacker’s actions, I don’t feel it was Dreyfus’ intent to discourage hacking activity; but rather to educate anyone interested in the topic of hacking to the culture and the real life implications of adopting this culture (as it stood in 1997).

It is my intention to deconstruct the average “hacker” that plays Diablo and to show that behind it is a conscious human being who bleeds when pricked, who cries when Â…well you know how it goes.
The reason why finding legit dueling is so difficult is because so few people are actually “legit” (and a whole article could be written about what legit means considering that duping of legit items allows characters to reach levels not intended by the programmers based on the scarcity imposed on the items in question).
So in short, us, “hackers”, are people who are tired of the basic game because we have played it enough.

Welcome to Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants, Inc.
John Hacker, a Stafford County,Virginia, native who came with the first party of men to settle at present-day Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia.
Finding that land he desired at Buckhannon had already been claimed by Samuel Pringle, an earlier sojourner in the region, he crossed the Buckhannon Mountain and selected four hundred acres on a tributary of the Muddy River, as the West Fork of the Monongahela River was then called.
The society's original purpose was to preserve the history and genealogy of the Hacker's Creek watershed in Lewis and Upshur counties; a few years later, the society elected to expand their area of interest and influence to include the entire Central West Virginia region.

It is important also to realise that not all of the dissemination of nanotech assembler instructions was the result of hackers and pirates.
Spreading limited assemblers and Matter Compilers was of far too great economic benefit for the nanocorps, and as early as the turn of the 24th century this was already altering the economy in a chaotic fashion.
The destabilisation caused by the influx of Backyarders and nanohackers into the outer solar system further accelerated the collapse of the Genetekker's short lived Gengineer Republic, already fragmenting into disparate clans and clades, and the previously Genetekker-dominated Jovian League is taken over by libertarians fleeing the restrictions of the inner worlds.

Likewise, it is also a better course than that followed by some clans that gradually transition themselves from being active gaming operations to becoming nothing more than glorified social clans.
Finally, it is a far superior course of action than taken by the clans who conduct their operations as a combination of the 3 ways mentioned above, for those clans are nothing but sick jokes in the online gaming world.
