Hackled orb-weaver - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The hackled orbweavers (family Uloboridae) have the special distinction of being non-venomous spiders.
All members of this family produce a feathery, fuzzy silk called cribellate (or hackled) silk.
Hackled orbweaver webs often have a stabilimentum or zig-zag pattern through the center.

Spiders that produce hackle band silk are called cribellate spiders; all other spiders are ecribellate.
Contrary to popular belief, spiders do not eject silk from their spinnerets as if the silk were under pressure; instead they either fix the silk to a surface and leap or they pull it out with their legs.
The females of the featherlegged orbweaver are the only ones you can easily distinguish from similar Uloborus species, because they have rather prominent tufts of hairs on their first legs (distally on the tibia).
