HOLMDEL - The Haddonfield boys' and girls' cross-country teams swept the team and individual Group 2 gold medals yesterday to highlight a strong day by South Jersey runners at the NJSIAA Group Championships at Holmdel Park.
Haddonfield's girls easily won their third title in a row, finishing 57 points ahead of Holmdel.
Junior Boo Vitez paced the Haddonfield boys to their second straight crown in another romp over Holmdel, 53-108.

Haddonfield, NJ, a small town located eighteen miles from the city of Philadelphia, has a long history that has been treasured and cared for by many generations of residents.
In October of 1913, a group of those residents decided to honor the "Two Hundredth Anniversary of the Settlement of Haddonfield", celebrating the erection of New Haddonfield Plantation by John and Elizabeth Haddon Estaugh in 1713 as the settlement date of the town.
The project was given the property at the intersection of Haddon Avenue and Tanner Street by Rebecca Nicholson in October of 1916 and began construction of a building for the joint use of the library and historical society in 1917.

No, what I’m referring to is the fact that Haddonfield served as the inspiration and namesake for the town in John Carpenter’s Halloween, the film that, for better or for worse, originated the slasher genre.
Since the actual Haddonfield hasn’t a history of knife-wielding maniacs (no comment on hook-wielding maniacs) and hasn’t been turned into an Amityville or Salem ghoul-magnet, the connection is more entertaining than disturbing.
