Haeinsa (해인사(海印寺 "Haein Temple") in Korean) is one of the foremost Buddhist temples in South Korea, most notable because it is the home of the Tripitaka Koreana, the whole of the Buddhist Scriptures carved onto 81,258 wooden printing blocks.
Haeinsa is considered one of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea.
It is still an active Seon practice center in modern times, the home temple of the influential Rev. Seongcheol, who passed away in 1993.

On June 20, a delegate of Silsang Temple visited Haein Temple and demanded pardon and punishment of those responsible for the violent attack, however, Haein Temple failed to keep its promise to give a reply after one week, which ended Wednesday.
The temple claims the idea to build the new statue was the wish of the late Venerable Song Chol and Ja Un, former leaders of the temple.
