 Hagfish
Hags vary in color, perhaps to correspond with the color of the bottom, being grayish brown or reddish gray above, variously suffused, mottled, or piebald with darker or paler gray, with brown, or with bluish; they are whitish or pale gray below.
The hag is found chiefly if not exclusively where the bottom is soft mud, where (to judge from its actions during the brief time it survives in aquaria) it spends its time lying embedded in the clay or mud with the tip of the snout projecting.
The hag was formerly believed to be a functional hermaphrodite, with its single sex organ first developing sperm in the posterior portion, eggs later in the anterior portion.

The blood of marine teleost fish (the "typical" bony fish such as a tuna or a herring) is not as salty as the sea water that they are swimming in.
Some fish, like tuna, must constantly swim to keep water moving over their gills, and are therefore active at all times (although they might be less active and swim slower during the night).

Members of this particular branch under fish all lack what can be called true bone and have a skeleton made of cartilage which is the flexible material found in the nose and ears.
Only their teeth, and sometimes their vertebrae, are calcified and can be found as fossils; this calcified cartilage has a different structure from that of true bone.
Thus, preservation of the whole body of a cartilaginous fish only takes place under special conditions especially as they are not the normal sort of solid bones.
