Hagemeyer NV, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, announced major reorganization plans on Dec. 9: cutting an additional 270 jobs in the U.S., part of an international 1,000-job reduction overall in 2004 to trim costs, a EUR 1.5 billion (US$1.83 billion) refinancing package, and the resignation of its CEO.
Hagemeyer said it expects its full year loss to be EUR 285 million, higher than expected when it reported six-month results in August.
Hagemeyer’s North American operations reported net sales for the first six months of 2003 of EUR 644 million, down 21% from EUR 815 million in the first half of 2002.

 Hagemeyer open to takeover bids
Hagemeyer NV, Naarden, the Netherlands, has signaled that it's open to takeover proposals, according to a Feb. 23 Reuters report.
Shares of the publicly held Hagemeyer have been rising lately, partially on talk of a possible bid by a consortium of private equity firms that bought rival Rexel, the report said.
Hagemeyer NV, which has been plagued by financial problems, said it expects to significantly narrow its net loss this year after almost halving the 2004 figure from 2003's $427 million.

Hagemeyer said it would issue up to 12.5 million new shares to finance the purchase of Asea Skandia from the Swiss-Swedish engineering company Asea Brown Boveri and Tech Pacific from the First Pacific Company in Hong Kong.
