Haggerston Pool was closed in 2000 at the height of Hackney Council's overspend on Clissold Leisure Centre.
The London Pools Campaign were not at Haggerston Pool but the regulars from the Haggerston Campaign were and over the two days of Open House weekend 2005 they had a display and provided information meeting with visitors in a refreshingly open and welcoming manner.
Haggerston Pool was closed in February 2000 while Hackney Council was overspending on Clissold Leisure Centre.  Pool Campaigners held a street party on June 26th 2004 to celebrate the centenary of the pool and highlight its continued closure.

Shoreditch swimming club, St Mary's social swimming club and Haggerston swimming club were the main clubs in the area, although the St Mary's club and the Shoreditch club were disbanded in the very early 80's.
When the Haggerston pool closed in 1985 the central Swim Squad was given water time at King's Hall in Mare St. At King's Hall was an all ladies club called Hackney Ladies S.C. whose was their coach at Central Swim Squad.
Just a few days after that Haggerston S.C. received a letter from ESSO who sponsored swimming for the Amateur Swimming Association and asked the club to represent the millions of children who participate in sports all over the country at the Lord Mayor's show that year.

 Subterranea Britannica: SB-Sites: Haggerston Station
The 1861 North London Railway Act authorised the building of a triangular junction at Dalston where a new station would be built (replacing the station at Kingsland), with a triple line running southwards for two miles, much of it on viaduct, to Broad Street on the edge of the City.
By the 1930's the decline had been halted and passengers numbers were once again beginning to improve but after the outbreak of WW2 Haggerston and Shoreditch Station were closed; shortly after closure the street level building at Haggerston was damaged in an air raid.
Phase one of construction work began in December 2001 and when the extensions are complete in about 2007, the line will be franchised out to a private operator and operated as part of the national network rather than as part of London Underground.

In October 2004, a one-term school residency between the Crafts Council and 9 Year 11 students from Haggerston was led by Ndidi Ekubia, a contemporary silversmith whose work is also featured in the exhibition.
The focus of the residency was for students to learn a range of metalworking techniques, gain a valuable insight into the career of a practising maker, and to learn how museums and galleries interpret their collections in order to make them accessible to a range of audience.
Once shown how to forge the metal the girls took hold of the project and were determined to get good results.
