		THE PHILIPPINE National Police Maritime Group denied Sunday it was protecting the interests of big fishpond owners in the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga as alleged by the communist New People's Army which raided the group's detachment in Hagonoy town, Bulacan, on Thursday night.
		Senior Superintendent Romulo Maningding, chief of the Maritime Group's National Capital Region command, told the Inquirer Sunday it was the NPA that was involved in extortion activities in the two provinces.
		This, he said, was the probable reason for the NPA raid on their Hagonoy [Bulacan] detachment.

	Blas Ople’s son answers estafa raps in Cebu court
		The mayor of Hagonoy town in Bulacan, who is incidentally the son of the late Senator Blas Ople, appeared last Friday in a Cebu City court and entered a plea of not guilty to a P10-million estafa case filed against him by a Cebu-based dealer of used vehicles.
		Hagonoy (Bulacan) Mayor Felix Ople denied the charges lodged by Emily Rose Ko Lim Chao, owner of KD Surplus based in Reclamation Area, that he allegedly refused to pay the 21 units of assorted vehicles she delivered to Hagonoy about four years ago.
		Chao said Ople’s persuasion on the urgency of the project and his representations and assurances to pay the agreed amount later on, she trusted him and delivered to Hagonoy town the equipment and vehicles even before these were paid.
