Rubeus Hagrid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hagrid was a student at Hogwarts at the same time as Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort) but was expelled during his third year after he was accused of opening Chamber of Secrets, for which Voldemort was actually responsible.
Hagrid keeps the pieces of his wand in an umbrella, and performs small spells from time to time; however, he is technically forbidden to do magic, and perhaps because he only got three years practice at it before his expulsion, he seems to be somewhat deficient in it as compared to other adult wizards.
Hagrid's love of dangerous magical creatures is central to the plot of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: a hooded person (Professor Quirrell in disguise) gives him a dragon egg to elicit details about Fluffy, the three-headed dog Hagrid has lent to Dumbledore to help guard the philosopher's stone.

Does Hagrid Know About Tom? - The Sugar Quill
My guess is that Hagrid doesn't know--wouldn't he have said something like "I knew him back when..." I also agree with your deductions that he doesn't know given that he has no "personal spite against Voldemort" and I would think that Hagrid would have if he knew the whole story.
Hagrid was in Azkaban when Ginny was taken into the Chamber - it couldn't possibly have been him, so he was cleared.
I still think that Hagrid didn't know that it was Voldemort who kicked him out of Hogwarts, even if Hagrid is not a spiteful person--that's something that you wouldn't tend to forget.
