David D. Caron is Professor of Law and Director of International Legal Studies at UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law.
Professor Caron was a visiting professor of international law at Cornell Law School in 1990 and Hastings College of the Law in 1996 and also served as Director of Studies (1987) and Director of Research (1995) at The Hague Academy of International Law.
He is a member of the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law, and received the 1992 Deak prize of the American Society of International Law for outstanding scholarship by a younger academic.

The Hague Academy of International Law has been in the the Peace Palace since 1923 and will be located in a new and striking building in 2006.
Each year, the Academy also provides a course in a developing country, known as the "External Programme." The Academy’s exam is highly regarded the world over.
The foundation of the Academy was mainly due to the hard work of the Dutch legal scholar Tobias Asser (1838-1913) who was a keen advocate of both the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the Academy of International Law.

Although international law has long been state-centric, new actors, including individuals, NGOs, transnational corporations, supranational institutions, and transnational networks of individuals, groups, corporate entities and government bureaucrats, are playing an ever increasing role in the development of international law and the international system.

During this summer's American Association of Law Libraries' meeting in Seattle, I found myself caught up in the enthusiasm of colleagues who were planning to attend the International Association of Law Libraries' meeting at The Hague in September.
Our meetings were held at The Hague Academy of International Law, which is located on the grounds of the International Court of Justice at the Peace Palace.
Some of the tentative programs she has planned are a session on the harmonization of European Union law, current developments in Central European law, legal issues affecting United Nations organizations headquartered in Vienna, and a trip to the Parliament in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Professor Van Alstyne was appointed Lee Professor of Law at the Marshall-Wythe Law School at the College of William and Mary in 2004.
