However, most hagwons treat their teachers fairly and most teachers I meet in Korea are content with their employment situation.

Re: Terry and Just W. As a result of all that compression the directors will, and I repeat will, PUSH their teachers to deliver a level of teaching FAR beyond what they will be paid.
The push is designed to make a particular hagwon seem to have a higher class of teachers or higher level of education delivery.
What should have been a fun teaching experience in a foreign country turns out to be a nightmare with teachers and hagwon managers at each others throats.

Taking a job outside the hagwon, even a non-teaching one, may be a violation of your contract.
Since that contract is the basis of your visa, you can (theoretically) be deported for working for someone else in your free time.
So I'd say that if you get on well with your hagwon director, or whatever current Korean boss you have, you probably have the tools you need to recognize a good employer and maintain a decent business relationship with him or her.

One is for a Christian school in a different part of Seoul and the other is for a Hagwon in Ulsan(a city of a million about an hour north of Busan).
The Christian job(offered by Footprints) involves teaching 2 or 3 days a week at a Hagwon and teaching Christian home-schooled kids either at their homes or at a church for the other 2 or 3 days a week.
The Hagwon hours are from around 10:30-7:30, but like I said, it's only 2 or 3 days a week.
