		A 'haidouk' is a kind of Romanian Robin Hood, and 'taraf' is a Turkish noun for a group of musicians.
		Taraf de Haidouks has had enviable success in the European World Music Chart, and has been touring around the world for the best part of the last decade, playing anywhere from concert halls to busking in the street.
		Owing to the whims of international politics, music such as that performed by Taraf de Haidouks was unheard by the rest of the world until the nineties, when they were snapped up by a Belgian record label.

		They chose the name Taraf de Haidouks (a haidouk is the legendary, Robin Hood-like hero of Romanian folklore, a wanderer who defeats the powerful lords by using his wits; and taraf is a Turkish word designating a group of musicians).
		This is why Hanna Gorjaczkowska of Crammed Discs, the Haidouks' record label, has taken steps which she hopes will bring the Romanies of Clejani a certain amount of security.

		TARTIT: Crammed are about to start recording the new album by this Tuareg band who live in the Sahara (in northern Mali), and recently took part in the Desert Blues shows alongside Afel Bocoum & Habib Koité.
		The album will be recorded in the desert by (Congotronics man) Vincent Kenis on his mobile studio, and in collaboration with Michel Winter, who has been looking after the career of Tartit (with his management company Divano, which also takes care of Taraf de Haidouks, Mahala Rai Banda and Konono N°1 among others).
		BEBEL GILBERTO has been writing and recording songs for her 3rd album.
