  Hairpin Lace Crochet - Crochet
The technique of Hairpin Crochet produces long strips of crochet which can either be used to form edgings or joined together in a variety of ways to produce different types and textures of fabric.
Traditionally the hairpin referred to in the title would have been a real hairpin and would have been worked using extremely fine yarns and tiny bone crochet hooks.
The main requirement of a Hairpin loom or fork is two parallel prongs and these can be made from any rigid material ie bent wire, two knitting needles held in position in a polystyrene block or wood with holes drilled in it.

Influence of Loop Residues on the Relative Stabilities of DNA Hairpin Structures -- Senior et al. 85 (17): 6242 -- ...
We have determined the relative stabilities and melting behaviors of DNA hairpin structures as a function of the nonbonded residues in the loop.
Thus, the enhanced stability of the pyrimidine-looped hairpin structures relative to purine-looped hairpin structures is enthalpic in origin.
However, on the 5' side of the stem-loop junction, the T-loop residue exhibited a connectivity with the adjacent base pair of the stem duplex that is not observed for the corresponding A-loop residue.

 CBSE Nanopore Analysis of DNA
Circular dichroism assays indicate that the 9-bp hairpin stem is predominantly a B form duplex in bulk phase.
Therefore, if the hairpin loop is perched at the ring formed by the threonine ring, the 9-bp stem would reach to ~3 angstroms of the limiting aperture.
These orientations may be angular displacement of the hairpin terminus away from the channel axis or axial orientation of the molecule allowing ion current to flow along the major groove of the duplex stem.

 The Hairpin Monopole Antenna
A hairpin monopole is simply one half of a folded dipole, therefore, a good starting point for our discussion is to briefly describe the electrical properties of the folded dipole antenna.
The noted difference between a basic folded monopole antenna and a hairpin is that the hairpin is considerably shorter.
The results are in feet and in the case of the spacing between the conductors, in percentages of a foot.

To join the strips: *Lay 2 strips side by side, with a loop on your hook, insert your crochet hook in the desired number of loops on strip A, pull loop through, yo complete sc.

When the pre-miR-30 hairpin was embedded in arbitrary sequences of a longer transcript and expressed from a pol II promoter, flanking sequences that can provide a 5-bp extended stem have been found sufficient for its processing (14), presumably because the arbitrary sequences outside the designed stem can provide unpaired bases.
Since processing of hairpins would lead to destruction of the primary transcript from which GFP is translated, this inverse relationship may suggest that the multi-hairpin transcripts were processed more efficiently than the single-hairpin transcript.
As shown in Figure 2D, the addition of the second hairpin led to a large increase in the amount of 22-nt small RNAs complementary to the sense strand of the stem of the miSkp2 hairpin.

From our survey we also noted that although uncommon, the inclusion of an RE site within the hairpin loop was not unique (used in 8 % of cases), but its only described use was to assist in screening and selection of recombinant clones [12].

Catalytic RNA: the hairpin ribozyme The 2.4 Å-resolution crystal structure of a hairpin ribozyme in complex with an inhibitor that mimics the precursor to the cleavage reaction demonstrates that this catalytic RNA aligns the 2'-OH nucleophile and 5'-oxo leaving groups by splaying apart the nucleotides flanking the scissile phosphate.

Comparison of the transition state mimic structure with the ribozyme-inhibitor complex (that mimics the precursor structure) and a product complex structure suggests how the hairpin ribozyme employs preferential binding to the transition state as part or its catalytic mechanism.
