The Hakata Minami Line (博多南線) is an 8.5km railway line in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, connecting Hakata Station in Fukuoka to Hakata-Minami Station in Kasuga.
The line was originally built in the 1970s to transport Sanyo Shinkansen trains from the Hakata terminal to a large train depot in Kasuga.

My name is Denis R. Graham, and I was stationed at Hakata with the 14th United States Army Security Agency Field Station (14th USASAFS) from February 1965 until July 1967.
Immediately behind the island is the town of Saitozaki, and further up the peninsula, in the upper left corner, is where Camp Hakata/Brady Air Base and the 14th USASA FS were located.
The bay in the background is Hakata Bay, and beyond is the city of Fukuoka, Japan - on the island of Kyushu.

I correctly surmised there would be a connecting Tsubame train bound for Hakata along very shortly.
I know Hakata is one terminus, and I thing the other is Kagoshima-chuo, knowing that the one name was a lot longer I guessed which was the Hakata board.
Easy.) It looked like the next Hakata bound train was in 5 minutes, with a 50 minute wait till the one after that.

The Sanyo Shinkansen was opened as far as Okayama in March 1972, and the entire 554 km from Shin-Osaka to Hakata (Fukuoka) was opened in January 1975 with the completion of the 18.7 km Shin-Kanmon Tunnel linking Honshu (Japan's main island) to Kyushu.
From March 1993, the service was expanded to operate between Tokyo and Hakata at one hour intervals in addition to hourly services only as far as Shin-Osaka running in the morning and evening periods.
While originally dominated by 0 series units and later by 16-car 100 series units, the Tokaido services are now operated entirely by 16-car 300 series units, except for a handful of rush-hour services for commuters, which use 700 series units.
