"Spirited Away" is a trip, in the literal, metaphorical and indeed lysergic senses of that word.
To stay in the spirit world and thus have a chance of rescuing her parents, Chihiro must ask Yubaba for a job in the bathhouse, a request the fearsome witch cannot refuse.

To call Spirited Away similar to regular Disney fair isn’t quite the insult that I may have insinuated, as most Disney fair is quite tolerable and agreeable.
Spirited Away is a visual treat, a feast for the eyes, and easily rivals if not beats anything put out by the Disney empire.
The plot of Spirited Away and the characters incorporated are so imaginative, that I must emphasive the importance of possessing the three prerequisites before viewing.

Haku’s treatment of Chihiro is sometimes kind and sometimes gruff, and Chihiro later learns that Yubaba controls him through a slug she planted inside him.
Haku may seem powerful at times, but he is also weak—he cannot remember his name, which means he can never leave the spirit world, and he is under Yubaba’s control.

Also, at the very end of the film, while the car is driving away, there’s an added bit of dialogue between Chihiro and her father that wraps things up.

Spirited Away, however, is more of a family film, and was the inspired by a group of ten-year-old girls who visited Studio Ghibli, and Miyazaki realizing that the studio never did a film targeted for them.
