Hal David was born in New York City and raised in Brooklyn.
Hal, the ten-year veteran, held credits that included "The Four Winds and the Seven Seas," "Brokenhearted Melody" and "Johnny Get Angry." Some of Burt's previous hits were "Any Day Now," "The Blob" and "Mexican Divorce," the latter two both coincidentally written with Hal's older brother, Mac.
Hal's Iyrics speak most frequently of the rules of and need for love, from the pointed questioning of "Alfie" to the pointed message of "What The World Needs Now." They are effective statements, stylish and economical, and they linger as moods in the memory.

During the late 70s, David ventured into Nashville territory, where he co-wrote with Archie Jordan, "It Was Almost Like a Song," which became a smash country hit for Ronnie Milsap, later crossing over into the pop charts.

The vibrancy of Signac's neo-impressionist watercolor suggests the shimmering effect of sunlight upon the surface of water, exhibiting the artist's research on color theory and the placement of pure colors next to one another; in contrast, the floating form of Léger's starfish is created by vivid solid colors, encapsulated by thick fl contour outlines.
The Davids donated their collection to the Hammer Museum’s Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts in order to present it to a larger audience and to provide a resource to UCLA students and the community at large.

Burt Bacharach & Hal David Tribute
You wouldn't think that a Nordoff-Robbins charity event in honour of the celebrated songwriting duo of Bacharach and David could be cause for mild controversy, but there was an element of that here.
Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy is rightly revered as a source of inspiration to autistic and otherwise disabled children, but as part of its 25th anniversary on Friday, the charity raised further funds while providing another kind of public service.
Setting it on a London stage was also entirely apposite, since both writers have acknowledged the important role played by British artists and audiences in broadening their appeal, as their tunes were amplified by Tom Jones, Sandie Shaw, Dusty Springfield and others.

The Farrelly Brothers' Shallow Hal; David Mamet's Heist. - By David Edelstein - Slate Magazine
Shallow Hal has its share of clunkers, like Hal's friend with no torso (Rene Kirby, who was born with spina bifida) exclaiming—after he has just sold his company for a fortune to Bill Gates—that he'd wipe his ass with 20s … if he had an ass.
The vexing issue is the chilling inelasticity of standards of beauty, especially for women—which the Farrellys at least acknowledge by poking fun at the disparity between Black and the glamour-girls he lusts after.
True enough, but Shallow Hal is a fairy tale—not to mention a PG-13, which it means it can be seen by the biggest "lookist" bigots on earth: high-school students.

 Dionne Warwick
Warwick was discovered by the music/lyrics team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, who used her initially on demos, and finally started cutting her on her own.
Bacharach and David fine-tuned their new mix of angelic music and non-romantic lyrics, and they were rewarded with a ton of hit singles: "Alfie," "I Don't Know What To Do With Myself," and "Trains And Boats And Planes," plus her version of "What The World Needs Now Is Love." Whew.
David's lyrics are interestingly introspective, though sometimes uncharacteristically labored ("They Don't Give Medals To Yesterday's Heroes"), but Bacharach's music doesn't rise to the occasion: only "The Green Grass Starts To Grow" has the dramatic impact we expect from the team.
