Hal Lindsey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lindsey also predicted that the European Common Market, which preceded the European Community, was destined (according to Biblical prophecy) to become a "United States of Europe", which in turn he says is destined to become a revived Roman Empire ruled by the Antichrist.
Lindsey's earlier predictions all assumed that the Cold War would continue indefinitely, and had eschatological significance; he explicitly identified the former Soviet Union with the apocalyptic figure of Gog.
Hal Lindsey forecast that the end days would be within the generation of the establishment of Israel in 1948, and wrote in The Late, Great Planet Earth that a generation is "something like forty years." Therefore, by roughly 1988, Jesus should have established his kingdom.

The Late, Great Planet Earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lindsey and Carlson interpreted history in the context of Biblical scripture, stating that the events of history, specifically the Cold War, fulfilled Biblical prophecy.
Although Lindsey and Carlson did not claim to know the dates of future events with any certainty, in one passage they suggested that Matthew 24:32-34 indicated that Jesus' return would be within "one generation" of the rebirth of the state of Israel, and asserted that "in the Bible" one generation is forty years.
Lindsey and Carlson have gone on to write many sequels, including Satan is Alive and Well on Planet Earth and The 1980s: Countdown to Armageddon.

Hal Lindsey - religious cults, sects, doctrines and practices
The significance of Hal Lindsey, I think, is he represents another one of those moments of breakthrough, when interest in Bible prophecy spills out beyond just the ranks of the true believers and becomes a broader cultural phenomenon.
Hal Lindsey seems to have had considerable influence not just on the part of the public as a whole, but at some of the highest levels of government.
In the mid-eighties, Lindsey was a board member of the now-defunct Coalition for Religious Freedom, a front organization for the Unification Church (which, theologically, is a cult of Christianity).

Who's Who of Prophecy - Hal Lindsey
Hal Lindsey was born again, in 1955, when he was reading a Gideon's Bible while serving as a tugboat captain on the Mississippi River.
Hal Lindsey's, The Late Great Planet Earth (1970), was not the first book on Bible prophecy to assert that we are living in the last days.
Lindsey writes, "To the skeptic who says that Christ is not coming soon, I would ask him to put the book of Revelation in one hand, and the daily newspaper in the other, and then sincerely ask God to show him where we are on His prophetic time-clock."

Hal Lindsey: Passé Prophet of Pessimillennialism
Lindsey confuses Biblical Postmillennialism with the socialism and evolutionary Secular Humanism of "the Social Gospel" movement, which was incipiently hostile to Biblical personalism.
Lindsey and 60 million middle-class premillennialists deny the inevitability of the Golden Age of conspiratorial triumph, and their preachers denounce those of us who believe in "the Christmas Conspiracy" as not being "spiritual" because we are trying to bring about heaven on earth.
Hal Lindsey and his group of self-respecting scholars have taken their eyes off God's predestination and God's Law-Word and focused their attention on the selfish materialism of human Empire.

 Hal Lindsey’s Prophetic Jigsaw Puzzle
Lindsey discounts the possibility of an American intervention against the Roman Antichrist because he predicted in 1970 that “according to the prophetic outlook, the United States will cease being the leader of the West and will probably become in some way a part of the new European sphere of power.
In Lindsey’s prophetic timetable the rebuilding of the Jerusalem Temple was to be completed by the middle of the 1980s, that is, at mid-point of the seven-year- countdown which terminates by 1988.
Lindsey’s conviction was based on the fact that “Nasser believes that he can unite the Arabs to lead the resurrection of all underprivileged nations into a mighty third world force.

Hal Lindsey How do we study the Bible?
Hal Lindsey has set up a theory, that first the State of Israel will be restored, the temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem, the service of the sacrifices will be restored in the temple, and then the last episode of history will begin.
Lindsey's reasoning goes like this:Jesus says in verse 16 "let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains." That means that before Christ's return the Jewish people have to live in the land of Palestine, otherwise they cannot flee from Judea to the mountains.
Hal Lindsey tries to make us believe that these thousand years refer to a period of time which is still to come.

Hal Lindsey denies that his return (to TBN) is imminent - "But Lindsey pointed out Jesus was very confrontational with the false teachers of his own time, calling them "whitewashed tombs," "brood of vipers," and "sons of hell" in the 23rd chapter of the Gospel of Matthew.
Lindsey's popularity may be attributed to a combination of factors including his readable, journalistic style of writing, his imaginative, if apocalyptic, insistence that contemporary geo-political events are the fulfilment of biblical prophecy and, above all, his categorical assertion that the end of the world is imminent.
Lindsey insists that the occupation of the Old City of Jerusalem in 1967 by the Jews was another significant sign of the imminent return of the Messiah, since unfulfilled prophecies concerning the Jewish people must occur within the ancient city.

Review of "The Late Great Planet Earth" by Hal Lindsey
Then Lindsey speaks of the "fantastic claims" of the Bible and indicates that "Bible prophecy (these same fantastic claims?) can become a sure foundation upon which your faith can grow..." Lindsey said "There is no need to shelve your intellect while finding this faith," but the Fool found this to be entirely untrue.
The Fool suspects that Lindsey must have some explanation to deal with this and other Biblical "prophecies" that have not taken place, but the Fool does not find them to be dealt with openly in the book where they could be easily confirmed or documented.
Lindsey winds down his book by giving an altar call in which the reader is assured that he need not be bothered if he doesn't understand it all.

Hal Lindsey is once again making predictions about the end times using Israel as the prophetic time piece.
The rebirth of the Jewish state and recapture of Jerusalem has increasingly influenced this conviction.”1 So Jesus was not the Messiah, and the NT is a fraud.
Lindsey believes that these events are “extremely important to students of Bible prophecy.” He believes “that we are very near the final climactic events that end with the Second Coming of Christ.” We’ve heard this before.

Long before Hal Lindsey wrote The Road To Holocaust2, he was the favorite whipping boy of Dominionist/Reconstructionists in their never ending attacks on the system of theology they most love to hate- Dispensationalism.
Hal Lindsey' s remarks and subsequent book followed by the Dominionist response are the ingredients which have really stirred the pot of controversy.
Lindsey' s book The Road to Holocaust was released in June 1989 with his warning of concern as to where recent trends of Dominion/Reconstruction theology could lead the church.

Schlissel also demonstrates that Hal Lindsey’s attack on Christian Reconstruction was actually an attack on Reformed (Covenant) theology, since C. is merely the Reformed faith taken to its logical conclusion.
Schlissel is rightly concerned that as dispensationalist’s hopes of an imminent coming of Christ and a speedy conversion of the Jews are found to be errant, anti-Semitism may arise from among their ranks, just as it did in the case of Martin Luther.

Amram's film tries to bridge the gap between the text's literal meaning and Lindsey's modern interpretations by juxtaposing stock images of reptiles and tanks, horses and tanks, and ancient soldiers and modern platoons, all within the dramatized context of the apostle John watching a vision of the future.
Lindsey himself says in the film The Late Great Planet Earth that the Arab nations would lull Israel into a false sense of security by signing a peace treaty: "If this treaty is signed, the countdown will begun," Lindsey predicts.
Lindsey himself carefully avoids predicting an exact year for the Rapture, but in both the book and film versions of The Late Great Planet Earth, he is clearly sympathetic to those who would hold to such a date.

 Hal Lindsey - General Teachings/Activities
Sadly, in recent years Lindsey has become quite comfortable ministering with hyper-charismatics and neo-evangelicals, and has most recently taken up an active interest in the area of religious humanism.
Lindsey also co-hosts a one-half hour weekly TV program aired on TBN, a prophecy program called "International Intelligence Briefing." By Lindsey's participation in the programming of TBN, he not only remains silent about the many heresies being taught on TBN, but he actually helps build TBN's audience.
One could speculate that this is at least partially due to Lindsey's recent "involvement" with the Rapha Hospital Treatment Centers in Houston, Texas (one of Lindsey's former wives was "treated" there).

Over time, I found that the only Hal Lindsey book that had an merit was "Satan Is Alive and Well," and that's because it was the only book where he wasn't dealing with his lame "this is what it looks like to me" interpretations of prophecy.
As for Hal's "codes," they are no codes at all, but impositions of 20th century thought on 1st century imagery.
Hal (and those like him) based their entire interpretive procedures on an erronious "rapture" doctrine and a flawed "missing week" theory, neither of which hold water.

 Hal Lindsey’s Prophetic Jigsaw Puzzle
Hal Lindsey’s books on end-time prophecies are selling by the millions at a rate usually associated with hamburgers.
His jigsaw puzzle approach turns Biblical prophecies into a crystal ball through which he predicts with astonishing boldness the precise pattern of events which were supposed to occur by the end of the 1980s—the time when the present history of this world was supposed to end.
The purpose of the book, however, is not merely to show the senselessness of Lindsey’s sensational end-time scenario, but primarily to help Christians understand the true nature and purpose of Biblical prophecies.
