Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, generally known as Eddie Van Halen, (born January 26, 1955 in Nijmegen, Netherlands) is a virtuoso guitarist, classically-trained pianist, and founding member of the hard rock band Van Halen.
Van Halen's self-titled debut album was released on February 10, 1978 and almost immediately recognized as a ground-breaking record.
Van Halen developed a technique of flatting his B string slightly so that the interval between the open G and B is a perfect, beatless third.

Van Halen is an American rock band formed in the early-1970s and discovered by KISS bassist and co-founder Gene Simmons.
By 1980, Van Halen was perhaps the world's most successful and influential hard rock band (a legacy the band sustained throughout their career; in 2000, VH1 cited Van Halen as #7 on their list, 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock).
In August 2005, Van Halen sued the Baltimore Orioles, claiming that the Orioles reneged on a deal to bring the band to Oriole Park at Camden Yards on September 2, 2004, which would have been the first concert at the otherwise baseball-only facility.

Thanks to my former spouse, I attended a Van Halen concert (on the Balance tour, no less) in 1995, but I finally caught a break when Van Halen III was released.

Van Halen is suing the Baltimore Orioles for at least $2 million in damages, charging that the Major League Baseball team reneged on an offer for the band to play a concert Sept. 2 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The suit also notes that Van Halen was at the time engaged in a tour of mostly arenas, but "the Orioles insisted that they could more than compensate Van Halen for the expense and inconvenience scheduling the concert would cause."
Also included was a budget for expenses and a non-compete provision that prohibited Van Halen from performing in other venues in the vicinity of Baltimore.

What this all means is that this greatest hits CD will not only serve good for all Van Halen fans, but also for someone who is either new to Van Halen or is on a tight budget and can't afford the individual albums.
Sure, Van Halen had some great ballads when they had Sammy Hagar, but there are too many of them on here, and counting "Right Now" as not a love song but a ballad, the only VH/Red Rocker tunes on here that are not ballads/love songs are "Poundcake" and "Humans Being".
Of course the question about the fugacious appearing of groups as the Sex Pistols or the full musical development of others not necessarily born in the eighties are not included just because the relevance and late influence of new associations like Pantera, Alice in chains, INXS.

I have created this Van Halen website as not only a tribute to Van Halen, the greatest Rock 'n Roll band ever, but also as an information center to anyone who is interested in the earlier years of Van Halen.
When Hagar replaced David Lee Roth in the mid 80's, I believe the band became more pop-oriented and some of the hard rock influence was lost.
Van Halen was still coming out with incredible tunes and they are one of the few bands that became even more commercially successful with their second singer, but we must admit that the Van Halen "sound" was heavily affected with this change.
