Computer games are good for you, say researchers who studied the complex social interactions in the popular shoot-em-up Counter-Strike.
Games such as Counter-Strike that rely on trust and co-operation give rise to strong communities and good friendships, said Prof Wright.
As a result players prefer to game with people they know rather than strangers and they tend to tone down the bad language when those they do not know well are present.

Generally it is accepted that computer and video games constitute a cultural genre as such, but the distinctions, continuums and variations within that cultural genre remain uncharted.
Or, that a game genre equals hybridity, because game genres are complex sums of interaction and rule mechanisms, audiovisual styles, and popular fiction genre conventions.
Your average gaming situation in Halo, with the NPCs shouting out their war cries and generally acting according to militaristic clichés, equals one being thrown in the middle of a Starship Troopers or Aliens fighting scene (slap!).

It's a game that definitely puts you into the world it has created, and you feel a real attachment to the characters and game environment.
Half Life 2 had a lot to live up to, with the hype that was given, and it certainly goes where it should with AI and graphics, the game is supremely fun to play, although the puzzles are not as challenging, in my opinion as the first, and the plot and characters are lacking.

DALLAS -- A month before the video game's scheduled release in the United States this coming Tuesday, illegal copies of the hot sci-fi action title "Halo 2" were already circulating on the Internet.
Fans were waiting last fall for the imminent arrival of the sequel to the popular "Half-Life" when unplayable source code from the personal computer game was stolen from developer Valve Corp. and circulated over the Internet.
By the time New York-based Rockstar Games, a division of Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., released its PlayStation 2 crime saga "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" on Oct. 26, an illegally obtained version as well pictures of the game and the instruction manual had been on the Internet for a week.

The main reason for winning the award is because it is arguably the first game of its genre to involve a fairly believable plot, which computer games of Id Software such as Doom were notorious for leaving out completely.

This is a game trying to create a believable experience, and as such, there are no levels per se, but there are divisions in progress to mark another theme.
