Halflife Connection Tweaks   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
HalfLife has some useful commands for optimizing your network connection and with the latest patches FPS is no longer tied to network code.
In HalfLife patches prior to 1.1.0.0 your FPS governed how many gameworld updates you sent to the server, this is no longer the case in 1.1.0.0 and above.
Set it to -1000 and let HalfLife do full prediction as it will ignore anything that is higher than your current latency or try setting your pushlatency to a negative value that is around 50% to 100% of your average ping.

The halflife is the amount of time it takes for half of the atoms in a sample to decay.
The halflife for a given isotope is always the same ; it doesn't depend on how many atoms you have or on how long they've been sitting around.
For example, the applet will tell you that the halflife of beryllium 11 is 13.81 seconds.

Proposed Removal Of VAC From All HalfLife Game Servers. Petition
Since VAC has been integrated into the dedicated server for HalfLife and it's game modifications, more and more honest players are being banned from playing on servers running in secure mode.
Valve Software, in an attempt to stop cheating in their multiplayer games have decided that it is in their best interest to keep any person that has been banned for whatever reason, from playing the game that they legally purchased even if a ban was placed on an individual that does not cheat.
In the future, disgruntled players who are falsely banned because of VAC being horribly coded may file a class action lawsuit against Valve Software for denying people the right to use their legally purchased software as it was intended for use.

Amazon.co.uk: Doctor Who: Halflife (Doctor Who S.): Books   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Halflife deals, albeit temporarily - with the amnesia that has been plaguing the 8th Doctor since The Ancestor Cell.
The first half of the novel is languid, with the Doctor and Fitz exploring Espero and going through a bit of mind-swapping - the latter half is overly busy, with numerous aliens and concepts struggling to be fully realised in a short amount of space.
Reasonably enjoyable, but Halflife is ultimately stronger on it's characterisation (the Doctor's amnesia, Fitz's hilarious erotic dream, Trix finally failing to go in disguise and starting to reveal her own character) than it's plot.

 Marco Brambilla: Halflife
In his project HalfLife, Italian-born and New York-based artist and filmmaker Marco Brambilla provides insight into the world of gaming, taking the wildly popular game Counter-Strike as the subject of this multi-part exhibition.
Released in June 1999, Counter-Strike is a modification of the game HalfLife (a title Brambilla borrows), allowing multiple users in different locations to play each other in a first-person shooter match.
HalfLife suggests that mediated experience is held up as better than real life to such an extent that it's become impossible to distinguish the difference.

Re: HOW IS HALFLIFE OF A SUBATOMIC PARTICLE MEASURED
Halflife is a measure of the amount of time it takes for half the number of particles in a given sample to disintegrate.
The disintegration process happens exponentially in time via the following equation: N(t) = N(0) * exp(-Rt) where N(0) is the number of particles you started with, N(t) is the number of particles at time t, R is the disintegration rate, and t is time.
The slope is the rate of disintegration R, and you plug it into the above formula for halflife.

generation5 - HalfLife: Opposing Forces (PC)
In OF, you are one of the soldiers sent to kill Freeman from HalfLife, but when you get there your Osprey crashes and you end up fighting for your life against aliens and secret Black Ops forces.
Overall, this is definitely some of the most demanding AI in a first person shooter - the enemies all know their strengths and weaknesses and will fight accordingly (the aliens are relatively dumb, but soldiers can be smart as hell).
The HalfLife graphics engine was beautifully augmented by the AI engine and the new gameplay elements, making OF a very worthy mission pack.

HalfLife illuminates our sense of alienation within public, shared spaces and investigates our cultural fascination with spectacle.
HalfLife is comprised of three components: Garden Grove-a video of gamers playing Counter-Strike in a cyber-café in Garden City; Surveillance-video footage of the faces of the competitors, projected in large format in the gallery; and, Game Engine-a video of imagery taken from the actual Counter-Strike game.
