  bit-tech.net | HalfLife 2: Episode 2 delayed
Valve has confirmed that HalfLife 2: Episode 2 (and all of its wonderful trimmings) will be delayed.
2 has a lot more riding on it than just the next piece of episodic content.
It also brings up questions as to Valve's rollout of the multi-core patches to the Source engine, which were vaguely slated for "before Episode 2." And though it is rampant speculation, one could even assume that HL3 might be delayed a bit from its December, 2007 release.

Half-Life 2 - from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia
Half-Life 2 picks up the story an indeterminate number of years after the Black Mesa incident in 'City 17', which seems to be located somewhere in Eastern Europe.
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch currently has seven "official" maps, some of which are based on areas from the single-player game: "dm_overwatch," "dm_lockdown," "dm_steamlab," "dm_underpass," "dm_powerhouse," "dm_resistance" and "dm_runoff." "Dm_overwatch" is based on the single-player chapter "Follow Freeman!," while "dm_lockdown" is based on the Nova Prospekt chapter.
Half-Life 2 was originally intended to be a far darker game where the Combine were more obviously draining the oceans for minerals and replacing the atmosphere with noxious, murky gasses.

Half-Life 2 is an immersive first person shooter from the developers at Valve Software, the creators of the original Half-Life.
Building off of the riveting storyline and gameplay of the debut title, Half-Life 2 pushes the envelope even further and has once again "raised the bar" of the FPS genre.
In addition to the PC version, Half-Life 2 has been ported to Xbox and will be released for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 in 2007.

It was the first major title of its kind that got the player deeply involved with the story line and brought new levels of world detail and surroundings.
Half-Life 2 has no multiplayer whatsoever; instead, Valve relies on Counter Strike: Source which in its current state of affairs is a beta at best.
It’ll be interesting to see if the gaming community bashes Half-Life 2 worse than Doom 3 — at least it had some form of MP right out of the box.

 UGO.com Games - The Half-Life 2 Dossier - The Review
GTA San Andreas, Halo 2, and even DOOM 3 have all had their fair share of hype and millions of games sold, but HL2 takes science fiction and tight gameplay in such a new direction that it's hard to even compare it.
The first thing I noticed about Half-Life 2 is that it pays so much homage to its predecessor that you almost get a full-on flashback of the events in the first game right off the bat.
Half-Life 2 doesn't quite take it to this degree, as levels are generally fairly large, and on my computer load times were between five and fifteen seconds most of the time.

If you have not already heard, Halflife 2 Episode 1 was released on 1st June, it’s the first of 3 episodes to be released by Valve to extend the story and world around Halflife 2.
Halflife 2 had some stunning graphics when it was released last year, and episode 1 has been tweaked and improved to include some of the features of newer graphics cards since then like HDR and more shader effects, there is also an option for ultra graphics, perfect if you have an SLi rig.
After waiting 6 years for Halflife 2, I am glad they are doing this but I also hope that they don’t forget to create Halflife 3 sometime as well.

The halflife is the amount of time it takes for half of the atoms in a sample to decay.
The halflife for a given isotope is always the same ; it doesn't depend on how many atoms you have or on how long they've been sitting around.
For example, the applet will tell you that the halflife of beryllium 11 is 13.81 seconds.

Half-Life 2 hits the ground running and never stops, and playing it for long periods of time can actually be exhausting.
Half-Life 2 doesn't have any radically new technology under its hood, but every bit of it is as polished as the floor of a palace...A lock for Game of the Year but also as the yardstick against which future first-person shooters will be compared for years to come.
With tasty graphics and gameplay that is sheer madness, Half-life 2 is sweeter than a chocolate-and-honey lollipop coated with sugar, and it provides twice the rush.

Unfortunately, the delay (and code theft) of Half-Life 2 did not make it possible to include the game so that a coupon was issued instead where the end user would have the option of downloading the game via STEAM or paying a nominal sum to get a physical copy of the CD delivered.
Although the delay of Half-Life 2 was a disappointment, gamers rejoiced still; the Half-Life 2 pack in with the 9600 XT was an excellent value as the game would be close to 50$ and the 9600XT at the time of announcement was only 199$.

A lot of Mac users keep a Windows PC around only for games, and many of us would like to be able to get rid of our PC, but in order to do so we need to get some more games onto the Mac platform.
Valve's support in bringing Half-Life 2 across would be a great step in this direction, as the game is promising to sell very well, and selling to Mac users would be no exception.

Vivendi Universal, the publishers of Half-life 2, the long awaited sequel to Half-life, developed by Valve, have confirmed Valves announcement from last Tuesday that Half-life 2 will not make its planned 30th September 2003 release date.

But by reading the reports from people that have actually been to the event and seen the side by side comparisons we learn that DX9 is mostly used for eye candy in HalfLife 2, and not so much to up the frame rate.
Nvidia must’ve sold quite a few extra videocards because of the simple fact that they had 32-bit color, regardless of the fact that very few games used it, or could use it without suffering a severe performance penalty.

 GamesIndustry.biz - Half-Life 2 officially goes gold, aiming for November 16 launch
VU Games will release the retail version of the game on that date (which presumably translates as November 19th in Europe, where games are generally launched on Friday), while Valve will also unlock the title for customers of its Steam distribution service then.
Half-Life 2 will now launch a week after another of the year's most anticipated games, Bungie's Xbox-exclusive FPS title Halo 2 - although, ironically, what should have been one of the most interesting chart face-offs ever could well be a damp squib if Valve's Steam service successfully diverts consumers from retail outlets.
All sign of the tensions between Valve and Vivendi was absent from this morning's statement, of course, with VU Games CEO Bruce Hack gushing in his praise for Valve's efforts on the game.
