Everytime you play a video game, a comic book dies - Joystiq
Comics and gaming should go hand in hand (Marvel produced Halo series anyone?) and it seems to be a cop out to blame video games for a drop in sales.
They were entirely awful, and it was this period that the comic shed most of it's audience - in recent years, the readership ahs gone up and down, but its mostly more stable than the free fall they experienced while "talents" like Millar were working their "magic"...
Comic books are supported only to keep their intellecual property relevant.

Zzzax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zzzax (sometimes spelled Zzaxx) is a fictional character, an elemental supervillain in the Marvel Comics universe.
On one occasion, the Hulk's long-time antagonist General "Thunderbolt" Ross, had his mind transferred into Zzzax's body; he was able to dominate Zzzax's mind, though Ross was killed afterwards.
It was recently imprisoned in "The Raft", a prison for supervillains, where it was freed by the electricity-manipulating Electro.

But no matter how one views it, HalfLife is undeniably one of the most popular PC titles ever made.
PC Gamer magazine said it is "the best PC game ever made," giving HalfLife 2 a review score of 98, the highest score bestowed by the magazine in more than six years.
In this installment to the HalfLife story, the player once again takes the role of Gordon Freeman, the research scientist who is continuing his fight to stop an alien invasion.

Amazon.co.uk: Doctor Who: Halflife (Doctor Who S.): Books   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Halflife deals, albeit temporarily - with the amnesia that has been plaguing the 8th Doctor since The Ancestor Cell.
The first half of the novel is languid, with the Doctor and Fitz exploring Espero and going through a bit of mind-swapping - the latter half is overly busy, with numerous aliens and concepts struggling to be fully realised in a short amount of space.
Reasonably enjoyable, but Halflife is ultimately stronger on it's characterisation (the Doctor's amnesia, Fitz's hilarious erotic dream, Trix finally failing to go in disguise and starting to reveal her own character) than it's plot.

DC Comics or Marvel? - Beyond3D Forum
Yes, I don't know what it is, but DC comics have always ben more appealing to me than Marvel.
Also, there's always been more to comics then just super-heroes, by example, recently I read The Preacher (from DC) and that was really, really good.
Marvel's Epic branch released them early on in comic and graphic novel form, and Dark Horse has it now, releasing 6 large graphic novels a few years back--which is generally what you'll find on shelves now if anything.

It was about how videogames were being written about in the way that comics were being written about a decade ago -- when the term "graphic novel" was coined -- where comics were being touted as the new literature, and comics like Watchmen were being studied in universities.
The article brought up the point that although comics had certainly changed since then, they hadn't become respectable, and that the same was likely to happen with video games.
There's a line of argument in the fandom of science fiction, gaming, and comics that this is a great injustice, that these genres should get more respect.

I think very often superhero comics sidestep an intelligent analysis of crime in favour of the simplistic good guys/bad guys face-off model, which to be honest I have very little time for — mainly because, in human terms, it’s just not very interesting.
I never read comics as a kid, and was first introduced to the medium by a fellow student.
I have a passing acquaintance with the Marvel and DC universes, but I have to confess to a general lack of concern with universe dynamics and continuity — in the end, we’re in the business of fiction here, and good fiction makes its own rules and sets its own boundaries.

Setting up a base of operations in Los Angeles, Graviton attempted to unite all of the criminal mobs under his leadership, but was thwarted in the attempt by the newly-formed West Coast Avengers.
Almost immediately afterward, Hall escaped from custody and formed a group of villains based on the four 'Fundamental Forces' with the villains Halflife, Quantum, and Zzzax.
Although he temporarily defeated the West Coast Avengers once more, he was eventually thwarted when the Avenger Tigra turned the villains against each other, and Hall's floating island shot into the atmosphere.

The more complex lighting surface normals of the high detail version are then preserved on the low detail version, with the lower poly count.
This method has been widely used in a number of modern FPS games, Doom III and HalfLife 2 amongst others, and is generally a great way to add complex model detail onto a game-usable version of the model.
It does have some caveats, some things don't always cook out quite right, and some aspects require tweaking, but overall it's a good way to get a lot of base detail on the normal map.

Infact i didnt acctualy find halflife particularly hard at all but that doesn't rule out the gameplay flaws i described.
But as far as i'm concerned, however good halflife's story etc may be (which isn't very good at all compared to the arts outside of gaming), it's gameplay is soo poorly designed that i cannot consider it to be a good game.
I agree with indecisive, there's no 'tactical' way to get through halflife 2, it's a game about conserving every bullet, every battery, every health station (oops wasted 5 health, better reload!).

They should throw in Day of Defeat: Source, Counterstrike: Source, and Halflife: Source as well, like a GOTY edition.
So only a small level, or a section of a larger level, being played is streamed in as needed, rather than an entire level, like in the PC version.
As for adding Day of Defeat: Source, Counterstrike: Source, and Halflife: Source, it sounds like a great idea, but it doesn't appear as if they're actually going to do that.

Within the scope of ATI's Shader Day event we were allowed to test on four machines that were provided by ATI.
NVIDIA asked us to test with that driver because it would contain a lot new (and legal) optimizations for DX9 games - including Halflife 2- and we were very curious to see its results.
On the other hand, the test conditions as they were complied exactly with the conditions of the Doom III tests earlier this year, where ATI did not have the chance to provide a better driver for the tests.
