Workbooks and microsimulation - Population Health Impact of Disease in Canada (PHI) - Public Health Agency of Canada
The microsimulation simulates one individual life at a time, from their age at initialization to death; the process is repeated until all simulated lives in the run have been completed.
Third, the microsimulation is a true incidence approach: the calculation of HALY is based on incidence cases in 2001 and the deaths arising from those cases in future years; by contrast, the workbooks use the incidence and deaths in 2001.
This changes the estimate of the mortality component of the HALY, and will be more pronounced for diseases such as breast cancer that have longer survival and changing incidence and survival patterns over time.

 Croesus
When all these nations had been added to the Lydian empire and Sardes was at the height of her wealth and prosperity, all Greek teachers of that epoch, one after another, paid visits to the capital.
In 559, the Median empire, which was separated from Lydia by the river Halys, had been overthrown by a Persian named Cyrus, and Croesus wanted to benefit from this turmoil.
He reached the Halys, where Thales of Miletus showed his qualities as an engineer: he was able to give the stream another course, so that the army did not have to waste time crossing the river.

If Plants Could Talk: Fact Sheets: Brown Marmorated Stink Bug - A New Exotic Insect in New Jersey
Halyomorpha halys, sometimes also called the yellow-brown stink bug or East Asian stink bug, is native to Asia and is considered an important agricultural pest in Japan where it attacks soybeans and various tree crops.
This feeding results, in part, in the formation of small, necrotic areas on the outer surface of fruits and leaves of its hosts causing characteristic cat-facing injury in fruits such as apples and peaches.
In its native range, H. halys feeds on a variety of fruits and other host plants including apples, cherry, citrus, figs, mulberry, peach, pear, persimmon, and soybeans.

 Ataman Hotel - Kerkenes
After the inconclusive Battle of Pteria between Croesus and Cyrus, Croesus retreated to Sardis for the winter from where he summoned his allies in the natural expectation that Cyrus too would withdraw for the winter and that the confrontation would be renewed in the following spring.
The site would be consistent with the need of Astyages for a strong base east of the Halys River, and the lack of later occupation can easily be understood because once Cyrus had exerted control over Lydia, the very reason for a strong base east of the Halys River no longer existed.
It is striking that Croesus treated the inhabitants of Pteria differently from the "Syrians" in the surrounding villages who, in contrast to the Pterians, had done no wrong.
