Halifax County is a county located in the state of North Carolina.
Halifax County is a member of the regional Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments.
In the county the population is spread out with 26.20% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 27.70% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 14.90% who are 65 years of age or older.

Halifax was founded in 1760 as the seat of Halifax County.
Halifax achieved its greatest fame during the American Revolution, though for nearly sixty years afterward it continued to prosper, as wealth from the successful plantation system, political power, and a social gentry combined to bring a "golden age" to the town and valley.
Later called the "Halifax Resolves," the last paragraph of this report read in part: "Resolved, that the delegates for this Colony in the Continental Congress be empowered to concur with the delegates of the other Colonies in declaring independency...." It was the first official provincial action for independence in all the colonies.

In 1758 the residents of Edgecombe County petitioned the Governor and the Colonial Assembly requesting that the parish of Halifax be granted the status of an individual county - having functioned along with St. Mary’s Parish as the two original Edgecombe County parishes since its creation in 1741 from the southwestern section of Bertie County.
Bertie County was formed from the western extension of Chowan Precinct (west of the Chowan River) in the year 1722, and was even earlier, an undefined part of the now extinct original Albemarle County 1664-1668.
Halifax County is located in the northeastern area of North Carolina and is bordered on all sides by seven neighboring NC counties.

His status as a son of John Worley, 3rd appears to be established by an Indenture made in 1797 where he joins with Lovick and Robert Worley in selling land received by John Worley, 4th from the estate of John Worley, 3rd.
This name was apparently borrowed from John Lovick, Secretary of the Colony of North Carolina, who married Sarah Blount, sister of Esther Blount.
