Halloween documents - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Halloween documents is the name used outside Microsoft for a series of confidential memoranda on potential strategies related to open-source software and to Linux in particular.
The first Halloween document, requested by senior vice-president James Allchin for the attention of senior vice-president Paul Maritz and written by Microsoft program manager Vinod Valloppillil, was leaked to Eric S. Raymond in October 1998, who immediately published an annotated version on his web site.
A parody by Raymond of the two original Halloween documents and of a quote by Microsoft's Ed Muth comparing open source developers to Robin Hood.

Halloween Background -- Recommendations and Resources   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Halloween was formerly also sometimes called ''All Saints' Eve.'' The holiday was a day of religious festivities in various northern European pagan traditions, until it was appropriated by Christian missionaries (along with Christmas and Easter, two other traditional northern European pagan holidays) and given a Christian reinterpretation.
Halloween is also known as the Day of the Dead, and it is a day of celebration for Wiccans and other modern pagan traditions, though the holiday has lost its religious connotations among the populace at large.

We, too, have recently been forcibly reminded (by the Halloween Documents) that we have been targeted for destruction and dirty tricks by the Microsoft monopoly.
As a company whose core business is content and media, AOL should have an even stronger interest than Netscape in seeing that infrastructure become a commodity, because it moves the competition from places AOL doesn't want to be (technology) to places where it wants to be (content and media).
Our culture (of which the Linux community is just the most recent phase) has been doing this sort of thing for thirty years, and (as Microsoft admitted in the Halloween Documents) we're better at it than anybody.

 Halloween VII: H20 - Movie Review | BLOODY-DISGUSTING.COM
HALLOWEEN got a different and much more daring treatment: a new sequel was to get made, involving the "final showdown" between "Laurie Strode" (Jamie Lee Curtis), the heroine from the original, and the infamous villain "Michael Myers".
H20 took the approach of discarding everything that took place after HALLOWEEN II, which was risky but paid off (though it's a shame Danielle Harris was not appreciated for what she had done in HALLOWEEN 4 & 5 enough to earn a cameo in H20).
In press for the movie, Jamie Lee always mentioned how H20 was her "love-letter to the fans of the series", and that she wanted to participate in the end of Michael Myers, and felt that it WAS INDEED time to end it.

History of Halloween & the Word of God
Many people think Halloween originated with the Christian holiday of All Hallows Eve which was to honor all the Saints that had died in the past year.
It is interesting to note that this probably most popular symbol of Halloween is associated so closely with a story about a meeting between and man and the devil.
Now that some of the history of Halloween has been documented and it has been noted that a celebration on October 31st originated not with the Church but with the the Vigil of Samhain, it may still be difficult to understand why October 31st is so significant.
