  Halloween - Movie Rental Review
Made for just under a half a million bucks by then-largely unknown director John Carpenter, the simply plotted shocker was a worldwide hit that inspired a plague of trashy lookalikes for years afterward (especially the entire Friday the 13th series), in which undifferentiated maniacs slashed into sex- and prank-crazed teenagers.
Halloween may be saddled with some unneccesary R-rated elements, but it still provides frightening moments with more taste and subtlety (you rarely ever see any blood -- you just think you do) than its imitators.
The minimalist plot begins on Halloween in the small town of Haddonfield, Ill., in 1963, with a sequence (made to appear like one long, continuous shot) shown from the point-of-view of a marauder, Michael Myers, who stalks and kills his own sister after she has sex with her boyfriend.

Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' Movie Release Date | News @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
Zombie recently said that his movie won't be a sequel to the original film, but he left the details a little vague.
The original "Halloween" was directed by John Carpenter and followed a masked murderer named Michael Myers who comes back to his hometown to begin a new killing spree decades after being committed to an asylum.
Halloween was amazing (didnt know it was made in 79 though) but Zombie's probably won't be as good.

Halloween being the perfect time to enjoy these tasteless, gory, decadently violent films, I have decided to create the perfect collection to watch on...
Bloodletting aside, these movies are all about jerks and how they torture, kill, and otherwise torment poor, defenseless horror rubes, most of which are either teenagers who have had sex, or teenagers who are about to have sex.
Halloween (1978) was the seminal work in horror movie history, the one that defined the genre for decades until a little movie called Scream came along and played hopscotch on its conventions.

Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie DVD Review - MovieWeb
I guess I was just hoping for more of a serious take on Halloween and this movie just didn’t give it to me. Still, young kids watching this movie will surely get something out of this as there is a lot of fun, good cheer and singing to be heard and had.
With a nicely rendered, candlelit Halloween motif surrounding them, it is easy to see why I thought this was going to be a great movie with a bunch of cute animated characters.
I don’t know what the reason is, I just know that when this movie was done, I didn’t have nearly the same good, warm feeling that I had when I screened Pooh's Heffalump Movie.

Okay, when I heard that there was a new Halloween movie coming out, and that it had Jamie Lee Curtis in it (who, of course, made her film debut in the original Halloween, and returned for the first sequel), I knew that I had to do a little recapping.
Halloween is the granddaddy of the whole invincible boogeyman genre, so you've got to appreciate it from the perspective that you haven't seen it all a thousand times before, 'cause at the time, you hadn't.
Now she has a seventeen-year-old son (no mention was made of any kind in this movie to poor abused daughter Jamie at all, who was one of my favorite characters in the series thus far), and a raging paranoia of being killed to death by her cursed little brother.

Jamie Lee Curtis: Halloween - Movie
What makes this movie scary, besides the downright creepy music, which is again, a simple score that John Carpenter himself wrote, is all of the implied sequences that take place, which proves once again you don't have to have nonstop blood and gore to make a horror movie work.
Obviously the fact that this movie was filmed on $300,000 and ultimately went on to rake in millions gives much hype to the movie, but the financial success aside, this particular movie, more so than any other horror/thriller, has held my top spot on my list of favorites for the genre.
Another intersting tidbit about this movie that Carpenter has talked about is that this movie was also mislabeled as a big gore splatterfest....when in fact there is virtually no "splatter"- very little blood and only 1 killing shot.

The movie begins with the view from the eyes of a killer, who watches a girl have sex with her boyfriend.
Yet later movies chose to abandon suspense as a means of achieving terror and sought instead to shock people by showing more blood and gore.
The movie has several flaws, but the primary reason it has gained such a status has to do with director John Carpenter's minimalist distillation of the most pure, adrenaline-generating, horror and suspense moments seen before in previous films.

The movie will not be a sequel or a straight-ahead remake of the original -- which helped director John Carpenter cement his name in the horror biz -- but a reimagining that will infuse new blood into the Myers story.
