		Where the hall inside the front door of a house is elongated, it may be called a passage, or hallway.
		It may be privately or government-owned, such as a function hall owned by one company used for weddings and cotillions (organized and run by the same company on a contractual basis) or a community hall available for rent to anyone.
		Hall is also a surname of people, one of whose ancestors lived in a hall as distinct from one such as David M. Cote, whose ancestor will have lived in a cote, a much humbler place shared with the livestock.

		U.S.A. Edwin Herbert Hall was American physicist who discovered in 1879 the "Hall effect" - development of a transverse electric field in a solid material when it carries an electric current and is placed in a magnetic field that is perpendicular to the current.
		Hall was pursuing the question first posed by Maxwell as to whether the resistance of a coil excited by a current was affected by the presence of a magnet.
		In particular, the positive Hall coefficients exhibited by metals such as magnesium and aluminium are a clear indication that a naive picture of a sea of conduction electrons is inappropriate because the majority carriers are clearly positively charged (and are, in fact, holes).

		Hall was a most renowned 16th century physician-herbalist, born in 1575, he came up to Queens in 1589, took a B.A. in 1593, and his M.A. in 1597.
		Since Hall was only 11 years the junior of his celebrated father-in-law, married his most favored daughter, and lived immediately next door as neighbors, with all the positive allusions to doctors and herbs throughout Shakespeare’s plays, it is reasonable to assume that the two had a close friendship.
		John Hall is shown as a resident and freeman of Newport in 1655, although this does not show the actual date he became a freeman of the colony.

		The transverse voltage (Hall effect) measured in a Hall probe has its origin in the magnetic force on a moving charge carrier.
		The Hall effect is a conduction phenomenon which is different for different charge carriers.
		The Hall effect can be used to measure the average drift velocity of the charge carriers by mechanically moving the Hall probe at different speeds until the Hall voltage disappears, showing that the charge carriers are now not moving with respect to the magnetic field.
