  Halma - LoveToKnow 1911
HALMA (Greek for "jump"), a table game, a form of which was known to the ancient Greeks, played on a board divided into 256 squares with wooden men, resembling chess pawns.
The moves are made alternately, the mode of progression being by a step, from one square to another immediately adjacent, or by a jump (whence the name), which is the jumping of a man from a square in front of it into an empty square on the other side of it.
This corresponds to jumping in draughts, except that, in halma, the hop may be in any direction, over friendly as well as hostile men, and the men jumped over are not taken but remain on the board.

But through the years Halma was able to develop many relationships and contacts, and people in the area began to trust the museum with their prized family artifacts.

The objective of Halma is to move all your pieces from your corner into the opposing corner.

 Buy Halma
Halma is a famous old Victorian game in which the objective is not to capture your opponent's pieces but instead to hop over them in an effort to get to the opposite side first.
Halma is quite difficult to obtain these days and certainly there have been no quality versions of the game since the early 1900s.
In the end, we weren't happy with any of the old designs which are either cluttered or ugly and we came up with our own idea that we feel is the most aesthetic of any board we have yet seen - dark spots for the inner borders and white spots for the 2 outer borders.

HALMA | All Online Games Wizz
HALMA, a battle game in which your only weapon is your ability to plan ahead, was an extremely popular board game invented during the second half of the nineteenth century.
Its name is derived from a Greek word meaning "to jump." Played by both children and adults, Halma has the advantage of com¬bining very simple rules that can be learned in a few minutes with the strategic possibilities of moves found in Checkers and Chess.
In the game, each player tries to block, out-maneuver, and outwit his or her opponents and capture the opponent's side of the board by occupying it with all of his or her own pieces.

 Pythagoreic Halma
In Pythagoreic Halma with "advanced rules" a piece may jump over multiple squares, as long as a single piece occupies the center square along the jump, and the other squares are empty.
The difference between Platonic Halma and Pythagoreic Halma is (1) in the latter there is one piece less (there is only one Diamond) (2) the board is smaller (9x9), and (3) circles may not move in the backward directions.
What about the name "Pythagoreic Halma?" The pieces are reminiscent of Plato's and Pythagoras's perfect mathematical Forms, that enter into Physis from their world of eternal Forms, symbolized by the margin.
