The Ballad of Halo Jones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Halo Jones first appeared in five-page instalments in the pages of the weekly British comic 2000 AD An overt attempt to bring a female perspective to that notoriously testosterone-fuelled publication, it was embraced by readers of both genders and is regarded as one of 2000 AD's high points.
The boy band Halo James was named after the eponymous character, while the 1980s pop band Transvision Vamp released a single entitled, as a homage, "Hanging out with Halo Jones".
In Book Three Halo, ten years older, has become a soldier serving in a Vietnam-style guerilla interstellar war which has appeared as backstory in the previous two books, and is courted by a famous, fearsome-looking general.

It was great for setting the tone, but terrible at making me connect with Halo, who doesn't really come alive as an everywoman protagonist until she is tossed into a situation as foreign to her as it is to us.
To make an absolutely terrible comparison, Halo is a lot like Forrest Gump, strangely wandering into most of the interesting events during the times she lives in and serving as a grounded, normal viewpoint character with which the reader can interact with fantastic characters.
Halo is at times a downright tragic affair, and indeed her entire life is something of a tragedy.

The "Ballad of Halo Jones" is one of Alan Moore´s earliest works, and orignally appeared in serial-form in Britain´s 2000AD magazine during the early 1980s.
The Ballad of Halo Jones is one of the more extraordinary things ever to have been published by the British comic 2000AD; it exemplifies much of what was good about that publication (subversiveness, risk-taking, an openness to new ideas) whilst at the same time marking a significant break with its usual biases and...um...proclivities.
THE BALLAD OF HALO JONES is a wonderful story about an ordinary woman who rises from hazardous poverty in a slum on Earth to genuine - but quiet - heroism in and after an interstellar war.

The Friday Review: The Complete Ballad of Halo Jones
THE COMPLETE BALLAD OF HALO JONES is something of a misnomer (out of a projected nine books, only the three collected here saw the light of day), but as a fictional biography of sorts, it's extremely entertaining, despite taking some time to warm to.
Part of the reason why HALO JONES works as well as it does is due to the appealing nature of Halo herself - she endears herself to the reader through her sheer ordinariness.
There is a brief interlude, though, in which Halo's life and times are discussed by a university professor and his students in a future even farther from the one Halo exists in.

Halo is a third-person perspective sci-fi action epic that for the first time puts the player in a single, complete and realistic world, without boundaries or breaks between levels.
In Halo, you assume the role of an armored cyborg scouring the surface of a gigantic alien artifact- a habitable ring in space 10,000 miles in diameter.
As the Halo rotates, a human on the inner surface would feel as if the centrifugal force or gravity was trying to pull him into the ground, but what's actually happening is that centripetal force is trying to pull the ground up through him and his mass is resisting.

But to be perfectly honest, the HALO engine is so amazing that Bungie could let us just run around the map banging two rocks together, and that would still entertain us fora while.
Because of the ring-0world's unique halo orbit at the lagrange Point between a gas giant and one of its moons, this freakish world actually spins in place, with the resultant inertia creating an effect similar to gravity (remember the space station in 2001?).
HALO makes quite an impression the first time around, but it isn't exactly a surprise that something so revolutionary would come from Bungie.

Tycho Jones, who had spent the last few days "proving" to the Federation personnel he was absolutely in no way even remotely related to Timothy Jones (who was still shovelling waste in the bilge tanks), immediately reacted.
