Halve Maen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Halve Maen's arrival had profound implications on American history and culture as it laid the foundation for the only colony among the Original Thirteen with a legal-cultural tradition of toleration as the underpinning of cultural diversity.
The Halve Maen sailed (overtly) from Amsterdam to the Barents Sea, turning westward to traverse the Atlantic Ocean sailing from Newfoundland to south in search of the Northwest Passage.
A replica of the Halve Maen, (officially Anglicized to "Half Moon"), was built in Albany in 1989 and is docked in Albany, New York.

In the event, Halve Maen was kept at Dartmouth until after Hudson had sailed on his next and last expedition in search of the Northwest Passage in Discovery.
In 1610, Halve Maen was returned to the VOC, together with the ship's papers, though the Dutch crews' reports had already spurred Holland to establish trading posts in the Great River of the Mountains, as Hudson's mate Robert Juet described the Hudson River.
Her subsequent fate is not known with certainty, and various reports indicate that she was wrecked off Mauritius in the same year, that she was lost off Sumatra in 1616, or that she was burned at Sumatra by the British in 1618.

Halve Maen is sprawled across two heavy discs, the only format through which the finest, most oblique musical messages can properly be conveyed.
Very tactile from the first needle-drop, the everyday objects at the old loft space move of their own volition, at the edges of the feverish eyes.
Overwhelming in its morose synesthesia and downright bleary at times, Halve Maen is like those little yellow pills I popped so long ago: Ingestion will definitely fuck you up.

Here’s a CD reissue for those who think Merzbow’s got the right idea but is too loud, Pelt is too folky, Stars of the Lid too precious and Sunburned Hand of the Man too abstract.
Halve Maen has been lovingly transferred to CD by Eclipse as a miniature reproduction of the original vinyl, and both the music and the package are immensely satisfying.
An appreciation of minimalism is most likely a prerequisite, but beyond that, Halve Maen should appeal to a wide variety of attentive listeners hungry for something beyond "indie".

Hopefully there will be a repeat of this event next year, as the ECWSA enjoyed the event (and indoor lodging!) even with the rain, as both a great time and one that allows the organization to educate the public about the 17th century colonial history of America.
The Society regularly works with the replica of Captain Henry Hudson's 1609 ship Halve Maen (Half Moon), performing exciting landings and battle engagements as Dutch soldiers, upon land and water, for the education and entertainment of thousands of spectators.
