  A History of Hamble le Rice, Hampshire
The Church of St Andrew in Hamble was consecrated in 1109 but it was largely rebuilt in the 15th century.
It is said that in the Middle Ages seamen from Hamble would carve a line on the church door and if they returned safely from a voyage they would carve another to make it cross.
During the 20th century Hamble became the centre of an aircraft industry, which led to the population of the village growing rapidly.

Hamble Lifeboat celebrated its 30th Anniversary in the year 2000.
A group of local residents, anglers, and boating enthusiasts formed the service in response to an increasing number of accidents and fatalities in the Hamble, Southampton Water and mid Solent areas.
A management committee reports to the Board of Trustees under the leadership of Trevor Wood and is responsible for all the operational aspects of the service and for raising the majority of funds from local sources.

Although Hamble has long been associated with aviation, it is not generally known that there were two airfields, one to the north and the other south of Hamble Lane.
This area was bounded by Hamble Lane, Southampton Water, the gully presently alongside Hamble Motors, and the railway line running into what was the Admiralty Acceptance Depot, which is now part of the BP complex.
To use this facility aircraft were either taxied or towed from the factory, crossing Hamble Lane by the present BP entrance, and following the railway line to the airfield.

 LTSC Hamble Scramble 2007
Demand for places will be great, because not only do we have the racing yachts from LTSC we also have a number of participants from the Royal Solent and Royal Lymington, as these races are the first two in the 2007 WSCRA Series (West Solent Cruiser Racing Association).
All cruising boats are invited to take part in a timed rally to the Hamble, the winner, subject to the application of some modest handicapping undertaken under the guidance of the Class Captain will receive a HARKEN voucher for £75.
Whilst it would be nice for a number of cruisers to rally up to Hamble together the starting time remains the skipper’s decision.

Early 1908 saw five patrols of Scouts (40 boys) formed at Mercury under the leadership of the Rev. Bloomfield, as a naval training establishment the activities the Scouts carried out had a definite sea going flavour and were indeed referred to in those early years as Marine Scouts.
The history of Sea Scouts in Hamble is long and interesting, we are always interested to hear from former members, who can add to this information.
