OBITUARY SKETCH OF WILLIAM HAMERSLEY   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-29)
It may not be amiss to recall here the fact that the Hamersley family in Hartford had for many years the unique distinction for sayings and doings of an odd, whimsical, and usually laughable, character, happily devoid of malice and ill-will, thus unconsciously enlarging the circle of their amused and delighted friends.
Hamersley was elected a member of the lower house in the General Assembly, serving on the judiciary committee.
Justice Hamersley regarded the distasteful matter in the line of his judicial duty, and wrote the opinion of the court uninfluenced by the views of the public.

 Hamersley unions dig in
Unions are regaining a foothold at Rio Tinto's Hamersley Iron, 10 years after they were forced out in a violent industrial dispute that left a long legacy of bitterness.
The union is already claiming one victory in its battle for the hearts and minds of 1500 Hamersley Iron workers, saying they have forced the company to change its policy and pay more generous superannuation contributions.
Since then, just seven die-hard Hamersley employees have maintained their insistence on collective bargaining, and their pay and conditions are still covered by an award negotiated in 1987.

Ten minutes after we arrived for our 5:30pm reservation, Hamersley's informed us that they were not able to accommodate our reservation due to an electrical problem (when they confirmed our reservation earlier in the day, no mention was made of this electrical problem which we later discovered they had been experiencing all day).
But when, a few days later, she didn't return our call as promised, we called and spoke to the GM stating that we thought that more consideration should have been shown to us given that they were unable to accommodate our reservation.
In fact, she went so far to inform my husband that she had spoken with the other managers at Hamersley's about our situation and they all thought that we were trying to "get something for nothing".
