It was made the county seat at the general election in 1876, and the present court house was commenced in 1877, and completed in November, 1878.
The court house is a handsome frame structure, and was presented to the county by the citizens of Aurora, as also the fine square that it is situated upon.

The town of Aurora in Hamilton County, Nebraska was named after Aurora, Illinois by an early settler, David Stone, whose wife was a native of the Illinois town.
Following organization of Hamilton County, the County Commissioners in 1871 pre-empted the site for the first county seat, Orville City, on a plateau overlooking both forks of the Blue River in the most densely populated southeast corner of the county, and a small single-story wood frame courthouse was built to house county records.

During the years some of the family had moved about in the state, and Francis R., the fourth son, who was a carpenter by trade, arrived in that part of Illinois where the Hadlock family lived and met and married Elizabeth E. Hadlock, the youngest daughter of the Willard Hadlock family.
At that time Aurora was the end of the line of the Burlington R.R. I do not know when the first members of either family arrived in Nebraska nor how they came to settle in the same community, but they were all there when my parents arrived in January, 1884.
The one I remember best is Aunt Ollie, as we always called her; at the time she was married I was about six years old, and we were taken with our parents to the wedding.
