One of the most interesting things about Hamlet, in terms of its style, is how active it is. Director Franco Zeffirelli isn't shy about having his characters move from one location to another as they converse, and even the famous soliloquies are far from static.
The first featurette is "Hamlet: An Actor's Journey"; this eleven-minute piece is an interview with Mel Gibson in which he discusses his thoughts on the film and the making of the film.
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is perhaps the most celebrated of all Shakespeare's plays, and for good reason: apart from its fascinating story of a young man fired with the desire for revenge, but torn by indecision, Hamlet is a showpiece for some of Shakespeare's most stunning writing.

By waiting, however, Hamlet does not seem to be a mere assassin or someone who is upset over having his throne stolen; instead, Hamlet kills someone who is responsible for the death of the queen and of Hamlet, himself.
Although Hamlet never says that public knowledge of Claudius' misdeeds must precede his execution, that is actually what happens.

The Readiness Is All: Presenting Hamlet as a young student, this film analyzes the psychological progression required to educate Hamlet to the ways of the world, thereby presenting themes about the nature of reality, evil, dissembling people, corruption of good intentions, death, and regalness.
One blessing is that Hamlet, sitting in the box of the father confessor overhearing part of Claudius's "confession" makes clearer his desire for public knowledge of Claudius's assassination; another is that Branagh and Nicholas Farrell make clear that "the readiness is all" concerns Hamlet's readiness to die, if need be, for his mission.

Shakespeare on Film & Video: Books in the UC Berkeley Library
Franco Zeffirelli's 1990 film adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' is ultimately disappointing because it excises most of the elements in the play that contribute to the character Hamlet's ambiguities, especially the political dimension that helps to explain his hesitation.
Family romance is at core of Franco Zeffirelli's film adaptation of 'Hamlet.' This is evident in his casting of actors Mel Gibson and Glenn Close in the principal roles, his manipulation of space and landscape, his alteration of the text and his approach to editing.
William Shakespeare' plays have been vehicles for films since the earlyhistory of the motion picture industry.
