In the township the population is spread out with 21.7% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 31.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the township is $41,594, and the median income for a family is $49,231.

When the county attempted to pass title to the buyers it discovered that it had no title to the land and it took another nine years for the county to gain clear title to the town site.
Township government was adopted in 1849 by a vote of 2,147 to 19, and several supervisors were elected in April 1850.
It was in January 1825 that the county commissioners court authorized William Holland to employ someone to survey the county seat.

But the roads between Mason and Lansing were simply horrible; it had been bad enough between Mason and Jackson, but the last twelve miles was nearly impassable by reason of the overflow of the streams.
Be it enacted by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the State of Michigan, That the name of the town of Michigan, in the County of Ingham, be and the same is hereby changed to Lansing.

Peter Browns a Millright by profession, came to Mason County to build a Sawmill for Charles Mear at Hamlin, settled on a parcel of land at the corner of the road leading to Victory Park.
This was one of the first roads leading toward Manistee from Mason County known as the logging camp supply road crossing the Sauble River at the East end of Hamlin Lake north of North Victory Cemetery.
