Mainland parking and the pathway down to the ferry dock are accessible for wheelchairs, but the ferry and the restrooms are not accessible.
Campsites 1-10 are right on the beach, spaced about 100 yds apart, 11 and 12 are on the south end of the island about 1.5 miles from other sites, and 13 and 14 are on the interior of the island, on the marsh land side.
The entire state, from the mountain to the piedmont area to the coast is rich in history and well highlighted at the parks.

When this channel is centrally located what happens over on Hammocks Beach State Park is that you have a build up of material on this side that provides some wave sheltering and current sheltering to this particular end of the island and therefore there would be a tendency for the island to actually grow seaward.
The State has been contacted about what the State role would be and once the Corps reviews it, similar to the consistency program and once it goes through the State steering house that would be when it would be considered complete enough for an application to come forward from the CAMA.
There are a fair amount of issues in beach placement, in and of itself, and then you add complexity of adding an additional channel, basically that’s what you’re talking about, through the throat of an inlet which, you know, will change the estuary and probably change the ocean.

I drove over to Hammocks Beach State Park in Swansboro, NC—only about 20 miles from my campground.
There is a nice little sandy beach for launching canoes and kayaks but it does entail carrying the boat down a small flight of steps.
I lost the trail markers as I finished the circumnavigation, but I wasn’t too concerned because I had made a good mental note of the group of large homes that were easily visible just East of the park.
