England: Hamsey Green Junior School, Surrey (entry 1)
Hamsey Green Junior School, in Surrey, is the spotlight school for this half term.  Here is a little bit about our school.
Our school is on the edge of London so we are very lucky to be able to have lots of green space around the school.  We have really big playing fields at the back of our school where we love to play football, hockey and rugby.

London Borough of Croydon | Hamsey Green Pond History   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Hamsey Green Pond possibly existed in Neolithic times, as there is substantial evidence around the pond of Neolithic and Iron Age settlements.
The position of the pond at the junction of two roads (similar to Sanderstead Pond) suggests that it was used as a watering hole for cattle.
Hamsey Green Farm was situated on the west side of Limpsfield Road and, on the east side just behind the pond a wheel-wright and undertaking business was established by James Bex before the Common became enclosed in 1866 to create pasture and arable fields.

 Westerham Juniors U8B
Hamsey were still in the game but the defensive pairing of Kverndal A, and Bushell were dealing well with anything that came their way and moved the ball effectively down the lines.
The home team, playing in their change colours of green, had the greater appetite for this game and were always first to the ball, tackling well and passing sweetly and they made it look easy.
Hamsey came back again strongly and after 10 minutes the Westerham defence failed to clear the ball quickly enough, it presented a relative simple chance for Hamsey.

Hamsey Green to Banstead - Day 5 - London Loop - Long-Distance Walks with Mark Moxon
Hamsey Green is in the middle of absolutely nowhere, and if you're coming from west, east or north London, you're in for a hell of a journey.
The worst part is that it starts at the perfect end point – a pleasant pub on a village green – but you can't have everything, I suppose.
It's not a lot to look at – it's just a concrete pillar, not unlike a modern version of the coal tax markers you come across on the canal sections of day 8 – but it's interesting that the Loop doesn't come across more of these markers.

West Wickham to Hamsey Green - Day 4 - London Loop - Long-Distance Walks with Mark Moxon
This isn't meant to belittle Croydon, but even its biggest fans don't associate the place with sweeping vistas and the rural idyll, but within a stone's throw of the urban business centre of Croydon are some of the prettiest sections of the Loop.
I then lost the path on the way to Selsdon Park Road and had to fish out the compass to guide me to the pylon mentioned in the book, but from there to Hamsey Green the Loop is easy to follow, passing through Selsdon Wood and through a bunch of farmers' fields.
And there, at the end of this short day's walk, is the Good Companions pub on Hamsey Green, a welcome resting spot where you'd be well advised to take a break, in preparation for the inevitably long journey home to East Croydon and then home.
