Less than four months after Hamtramck's state-appointed emergency financial manager stepped down, declaring the city financially sound, the city is facing another major financial crisis.
Wayne County officials said Thursday they want Hamtramck to refund nearly $4 million they say the county overpaid as part of a payment in lieu of taxes agreement that compensates the city for revenue lost in connection with the county jail.
Hamtramck is prepared to sue the county to get the $867,442 balance, said William Barnett, Hamtramck's controller.
