Hamura City has no galleries or display space for work like mine, but I found a pleasant gallery in neighbouring Ome City, and rented it for both the second and third exhibitions.
I was thinking of all those people living in central Tokyo who would perhaps like to see my work, but who found it just too far to travel to the Ome gallery where I had previously exhibited.

The committee and board of directors were headed by the local mayor and included people from the contractor (Tokyo Civil Engineers, Road Department) and the local city hall, a representative of the Tokyo Cultural Properties Section, and members of the local community, especially those concerned with the preservation of cultural properties.
At the time, hiring middle-aged local people to do the work was not heard of in Tokyo, because it was felt that archaeology was an academic undertaking that only college students and archaeologists could do.
But partly our low original estimate was because the Tokyo archaeologist had pressured me to give a low, easily accepted estimate to avoid up-front controversy, ignoring the fact that this usually resulted in even greater problems later on.

If you follow the Tama river downstream you come to the cities of Hamura, Fussa and Akishima and if you follow the Ome Kaido (The main highway that leads from Ome down to Shinjuku in the center of Tokyo) you come to the cities of Mizuho and Iruma.
It is not much compared to the 26 million that live in the entire Tokyo metropolitan area, but still a lot.
Similar conditions exist all over Tokyo and indeed the situation only gets worse as you go farther away from the capital into the countryside of Japan.

 Production Resumes at 2 Stopped Toyota Plants
The fire two weekends ago destroyed a brake plant operated by Toyota affiliate Aisin Seiki Co. and forced Toyota to shut down about 90% of its domestic production by Tuesday of last week.
The two plants that Toyota has reopened are its factory in Aichi Prefecture and a Hino Motors-run plant in Hamura, Tokyo.
Before the fire, the Aisin Seiki brake plant supplied Toyota with 100% of the proportioning valves it used in its vehicles.

Along with the growth of the company, the Tokyo Product Control and Technical Center in Higashi Yamato City became too small, and in December 1978, construction of a new research center was begun in Hamura-machi (now Hamura City), Nishitama-gun, Tokyo.
The Hamura Research & Development Center was completed in July of the following year, and currently employs 1,500 people as CASIO's central research and development institute.
