Emperor Hanazono (花園天皇) (August 14, 1297 - December 2, 1348) was the 95th imperial ruler of Japan.
During Hanazono's reign, Negotiations between the Bakufu and the two lines resulted in an agreement to alternate the throne between the two lines every 10 years (the Bumpō Agreement).
He excelled at tanka, and was an important member of the Kyōgoku School.

Hanazono village is the least used of the three resorts in the area, about two hours from Sapporo.
Two-bedroom units in Hanazono will be about $350,000, significantly less than its Australian equivalent, and Hackworth is sure that the units will prove attractive, especially with Japanese interest rates at only 2 per cent.

The question you pose at the end of your piece on the Australian purchase of the Hanazono ski area and flights by Australian Airlines is interesting, but there are some other intriguing aspects of the whole story that could do with some elucidation too.
Hanazono is on the wrong side of the mountain, exposed to cold Siberian winds and lacking the full-frontal view of the glorious Mt Yotei.
You could also ask what the Jackson and Hackworth purchases in the picturesque and centrally located Hirafu say about their own confidence in the future of Hanazono, which is being spoken of in hushed tones as a very major investment by an Australian company in Japan.

MFS is using the expertise of Australian Alpine Enterprises (AAE), which previously managed the Victorian resorts, to spearhead the foray into the Japanese ski market.
AAE hopes to purchase the Niseko Hanazono ski field which is about a two hour train ride from Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido.
