Independent Gay Forum: Varnell, Paul. 'Punishing Gays under Islam.'
These early doctrines and practices were codified by the influential Hanbalite school of law, the most conservative school of Islamic jurisprudence, named after the theologian Ahmad ibn Hanbal (780-855).
Ibn Hanbal argued that human reasoning was not a reliable guide to truth and that the Qur'an and the habitual behavior of Muhammad, literally understood, offered sufficient guidance for later practice.
The strict Hanbalite school of jurisprudence remains powerful to this day, and is dominant in Saudi Arabia and Syria.

Those incarnationists who decide possibility of hanging the Lord in the Hereafter, are the Hashawites and groups of Hanbalites and Asharites.
The Hanbalite corporalists, Ibn Teimiya and their likes ruled the authenticity of this narrative.
Hanbalite corporalists renounce denying the Lord's corporeity, as Bin Baz asserts, and reject denial of anthropomorphism, as Ibn Teimiya affirms.

Pour les hanafites et les hanbalites ceci est obligatoire.
Pour les malikites et les chafi’ites, cet acte est une sounnah, si on ne le fait pas le ghousl n’est pas invalidé.

 The Punishing Truth about Islam
Ibn Hanbal argued that human reasoning was not a reliable guide to truth and that the Koran and the habitual behavior of Mohammed, literally understood, offered sufficient guidance for later practice.
The strict Hanbalite school of Islamic jurisprudence remains powerful to this day, and is dominant in Saudi Arabia and Syria.
The official Saudi Arabian state religion is a puritanical branch of Islam called "Wahhabism," named for the fundamentalist religious leader named Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1703-92), who urged an anti-modern, "restorationist" or "back to the Koran" puritanism fully consistent with the Hanbalite school.

The Penalties for Apostasy in Islam 1/3
Some believe that the apostate should be given a period for repentance consisting of three days, while others are of the opinion that he is to be granted no time for reconsideration but should only be offered Islam.
The Shafi´ites, Hanbalites and Malikites say: The verdict for the female apostate is the same as for the male.
She must be called on to return to Islam for three days, prior to her death, for an evil-doer may have confused her understanding; thus the possibility exists for her being released from her confusion.

Contents Vol. 4 Journal of Arabic and Islamic Studies
Considering the sources of Islamic law, this paper reasons that neither the Holy Book nor the most authentic and earliest apostolic sayings impose a death sentence for sodomy in this life.
But Isma'ilis, Zaidis, most Ja'faris and Shafi'is and many Hanbalites punish liwat with the penalty for zina; the Malikis and some Hanbalis and Shafi'is decree the death penalty even for the ghayr muhsan.
Leaving the ghulat aside, who, if one is to believe Imami heresiographies, did allow liwat, some viewing it as a way to transmit holiness, only the rather marginal Zahiriya and most Hanafites argue that there is no hadd —they impose only ta'zir.

The Hanbalites say that male and female circumcision is an Islamic ritual; the man can force his wife to be excised as well as to force her to pray.
For the Hanbalites, the non-circumcision of the husband is a breach of contract giving the woman the choice of asking for divorce or continuing the marriage.
For some, the non-circumcised man has no right of guardianship of a Muslim and no right to give his consent to the marriage of a Muslim relative.

For starters, the early Wahhabis were pre-modern Hanbalites; to this day Najd, a place reknowned for its xenophobia, is still the home of Hanbalism and not “Wahhabis”.
Salafisms are a broad modern movement, not to be confused with the pre-modern Hanbalites, and find their origins in a merging of anti-colonial Sufi activism, and the mutation and breakdown of Abduh’s rationalist, utilitarian theology.
