The racial makeup of the county is 99.30% White, 0.03% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.32% from two or more races.
In the county, the population is spread out with 24.60% under the age of 18, 5.10% from 18 to 24, 22.30% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 24.20% who are 65 years of age or older.

Hand was soon attracted to the American experiment in self-government, so that by 1774 the land around Lancaster, Pennsylvania, beckoned in part because it swarmed with many of his fellow Irish who bristled at the role of London in their affairs.
After the Revolution, Hand served a term in the Continental Congress, in 1783-'4, became a signer of the Pennsylvania constitution of 1790, and occupied many local offices of public trust.
Hand died in Rockford, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, September 3, 1802, and is interred there in St. James's Episcopal Cemetery.

As weary King County election workers faced the daunting prospect of having to recount 898,000 ballots by hand, the county's director of elections expressed doubt that a hand count would produce a more precise result than the machine recount finished yesterday.
To secure the ballots, King County officials have posted off-duty sheriff's deputies around the clock and sealed doors with numbered tape at the Sodo facility where the machine recount was conducted.
King County officials haven't determined how much a manual recount would cost, but it would be substantially more than the $125,000 to $150,000 cost of the just-completed machine recount.
