  Honda-R Gets Muddy !
Next up were the handbrake turns, slightly better but I'm still letting the car drive me some of the time and I've got very "nervous" hands on the wheel.
Turns out my first run was 1min 08secs and my second was 1min 09secs.
The speed that you could carry through the turns was amazing, especially where there was a lot of camber helping you and the car just wouldn't get flustered no matter what the idiot behind the wheel thought he was trying to do.

Handbrake turn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The handbrake turn is a driving technique used to deliberately slide a car sideways, either for the purpose of negotiating a very tight bend quickly, or for turning around well within the vehicle's own turning circle.
The driver starts by using steering input to transfer weight to the outside tires, the handbrake is then used to lock the rear wheels, thus upsetting the adhesion between the tires and the road surface.
In a rear-wheel drive manual transmission vehicle, it is also necessary to operate the clutch to prevent the handbrake from stalling the engine.

Handbrake turn: (Speed 30 kph and more) For most safety, on your car of course, find a junction or a parkinglot which is opened up, so there is a lot of space if anything goes wrong.
Eg, if your sliding through a left bend you first have the wheels turned to the left to make the car go into the leftbend, and when the tail is going out turn the wheel(have to use one hand) to the right and the you won't be overrun by the rear(spinning around).

It is possible to turn the car a full 180 degrees to face the opposite direction by performing what is known as a handbrake turn.
Handbrake turns are the easiest to perform with a front-wheel-drive car, although any car will do.
Just remember - for manual cars, depress the clutch, turn, pull the handbrake (or press the foot e-brake), straighten the steering wheel, release the handbrake (or foot e-brake), shift into first, floor the accelerator, dump the clutch, and finally, countersteer to keep the car straight.

Pulling the handbrake to turn around a long radius corner will actually worsen your cornering time in most cases, so it is not a technique for road racing.
The result is that a very sharp turn is required for the exit, which may be unsettling for the car and the driver may instead go off the track.
The key to safe turning at the track is to follow the old saying "slow in, fast out." Enter a turn slowly to avoid getting into trouble, and speed up as you are exiting the turn heading for a nice and straight piece of asphalt.

 Glossary - Shasta Snow Trip - 2005
The handbrake turn is a driving technique used to deliberately spin a car, either for the purpose of negotiating a very tight bend quickly, or for turning around well within the vehicle's own turning circle.
The use of the handbrake locks the rear wheels, thus breaking the friction between the tyres and the road surface.
A related technique is the handbrake turn, in which the rear wheels are deliberately locked in order to break the friction between the tyres and the road, allowing the car to be spun around a very tight bend or junction, etc.

For best results, the Handbrake Turn should be done at a speed of 30 - 40mph in dry conditions or 20 - 25mph in wet conditions.
To perform this manoeuvre you should turn the steering wheel slightly into the direction that you wish to turn (away from the carjacker).
If on a very wide road or a road with a soft grass verge a Y Turn is the least dramatic of all the evasive manoeuvres and again can be used for an attack to either the passenger or driver side.

To my knowledge, every rally driver who uses handbrake turns will either use a "fly-off" handbrake (which means it doesn't have a functioning lock button) or they hold the button in and continue to hold the handbrake until the point that it is not required.

The downside to front wheel drive cars is that without the use of the handbrake, and particularly at high speeds (such as track and circuit events) they tend to understeer.
This means that you'll almost always have to use the handbrake on motorkhanas and autocrosses, which will shorten the life of the handbrake cable and this can be expensive.
Unfortuantely when performing a handbrake turn in these vehicles, you will still need to clutch in for the duration of the turn which will mean none of your wheels will be driving you forwards so you don't have the advantage of a front wheel drive vehicle.

If the turn is an acute one it may be possible to negotiate the turn without too much drama if you are travelling relatively slowly.
If you enter the corner at speed, the natural tendency of the car will be, at best, to understeer towards the edge of the road with the brakes totally locked up or, at worst, to slide off into the shrubbery, necessitating a bit of backing and filling to get back on the road again.
