Topic: Handclaws

In the News (Tue 22 Dec 09)

  Handclaws Information
Handclaws, also called Shuko or Tekagi (手鉤: "hand hooks"), are claw- or hook-shaped objects used by ninja as weapons.
When handclaws were invoked by a skilled user, victims often appeared to have been mauled by a bear or other wild animal.
It is commonly believed that the spikes were also used to scratch messages into stone or wooden surfaces to warn accomplices of what lay ahead; for example, one line could mean "safe passage"; two, "turn back"; and three, "enemy ahead." Sometimes used for torture, the handclaws are victors of fierce punishment.

Standing over it, handclaws fully flexed, she glared at the pale, bizarrely naked skin, willing the creature to open its eyes and speak before it passed beyond anyone’s claws.
She speared a mottled-green mizb fruit with a flexed handclaw, then scored the thick rind from top to bottom.
Forcing the obstinate yirn along the faint path with flexed handclaws, Khea squinted, trying to mark the edge of the plateau, somewhere beyond the scrubby gray-green brush ahead.

 Ninja - Gurupedia
This, combined with the popular image of the legendary costume of an all fl suit and hood which leaves only the eye area of the face exposed, often makes up the western idea of the ninja as a popular foe of fictional spies (especially on missions in East Asia), superheroes and supervillains.
Ninja used several special weapons against their enemies, the shuriken (throwing stars) and handclaws (shuko, tekagi) probably being the most famous.
Weapons could also be used cleverly as tools such as using the cord of their sword scabbard to construct a hammock between tree branches.

One of the guards at the south gate even let her hold his sword for a bit and give it a swing.
The silkworms needed to make the gloves for her handclaws were damned scarce to start with, but until they were available, there were plenty of little dinosaur things and beetle things to practice her skills on.
In time, with some false starts and failures, she was able to not only collect all the silk needed but tailor the silk into thread, the thread into bandages, and the bandages into gloves.

The handclaws were specialised for catching and killing small to medium sized dinosaurs, and other animals.

I bought some handclaws and footspikes about a year ago and did some decent tree climbing with them.
The handclaw set I purchased online had steel handles that went around your hands and were quite uncomfortable if you didn't wear some gloves/padding on the back of your hands.
I had the thought of cutting the metal handles and fitting them with some custom leather backings or something to fit the contour of my hands better.

Had first formal review last week and received laudatory remarks in salesmanship category, although a disappointing and, in my opinion, somewhat unfair "needs improvement" in intra-company communication.
Are they trying to test me? My immediate supervisor, Glen, averred in last week's commodity meeting that "actions speak louder than words." I wonder: Would he like to communicate with my neko-te handclaws?
From what I have ascertained thus far, average day for salesperson consists of arriving to work 15 minutes late, talking to clients about "golf" (still have not learned what this is—sales tactic?—must research), strategically availing oneself of copious break time, and generally being a sycophant.
