  Classroom Solutions - K12 Handhelds
If students are directed to purchase their own handhelds, it is important for the school to issue purchasing guidelines that include information such as requirements for the operating system, minimum memory, expansion, and software.
If handhelds are going to be transported frequently, used in outdoor environments, or otherwise used in a potentially rough manner, cases are recommended.
Since each handheld comes with a cradle or cable, you aren't likely to be short of them, and may even want to check them out to students for home use.

A List Apart: Articles: Pocket-Sized Design: Taking Your Website to the Small Screen
The main limitation of a handheld device is the small screen, which may also lack a mechanism for horizontal scrolling.
Because their screens are small and the device may not always have a horizontal scrolling mechanism, overflow in the horizontal direction is a major problem on handhelds.
Keyboard events don’t necessarily apply, either; interaction on handhelds is often only with a stylus, which does not track keypress or hover events and cannot right-click or double-click.
