Handley Page Ltd was formed by Frederick Handley Page in 1909.
Handley Page continued to design and build excellent bombers and transports through World War II and into the post-war years including the Hampton and Halifax bombers.
Handley Page had no interest in a forced merger and closed its doors in 1970.

 Exit the Jetstream
Handley Page had proposed the twenty-seat commuter aircraft in 1965 when considerable interest was shown, 20 being ordered by an American company straight off the drawing board.
Handley Page was greatly encouraged that the US Air Force was showing interest in the Jetstream as early as 1967.
The eleven Jetstreams used by the RAF were mostly from the second batch produced, the original CFS and Oakington machines being converted for Navy use.

Handley Page Jetstream - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Handley Page HP.137 Jetstream is a small twin turboprop airliner, with a pressurised fuselage, designed to meet the requirements of the United States feederliner and regional airline market.
Handley Page was in an awkward position in the 1960s, wishing to remain independent of the "big two" British companies, but without the money needed to develop a large new airliner that would keep them in the market.
The new version proved to be as popular as Handley Page had originally hoped for, and several hundred 31's were built during the 1980s.

 Handley Page - Aircraft - H.P.137 Jetstream
Because of the extremely high cost of developing a large modern airliner it became apparent in the mid-1960s that if Handley Page were to remain in the aircraft manufacturing business, and not become absorbed by one of the "Big Two" of the British aerospace industry, they must produce a very competitive small airliner.
The Jetstream was principally aimed at the United States market, and well before the flight of the prototype a dealer network had been established in that country.
As well as the civil Jetstream a military version designated 3M was being developed for a small contract received from the USAF in competition with many major US companies.
